Smart guns are for idiots.

I want mine to work when I need it. Or my wife needs it. Or my extended family going back 3 generations.

I wish very bad things on anti-gunners.

Let's have the FBI, DEA, BATF, even the local cops field test these puppies for a couple of years first. Think they're eager to try them?

Yeah, right.

Oh, and if they also use this technology for eeeevil assault weapons, will New Jersey allow you to buy them?

If smart guns are such a great idea, then police depts should love them! A very high percentage of police officers are shot with their own weapons. The fact is, the police will never use so-called smart guns. They aren't going to be reliable enough. They need 100% reliability If they aren't good enough for the police, they aren't good enough for the rest of us. End of story.

This attempt at protecting the people from themselves is reminiscent of the old OSHA Cowboy.

Scientists at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) were awarded $1.1 million by the US Department of Justice

Several FReepers wondered in a thread yesterday why I would be opposed to seeing Asscroft on the Supreme Court. Here's a classic example of why I oppose him.

How about a gun that also is a cell phone and a PDA.

The cell phone may be a little dangerous. Maybe if you get email you can shoot spammers back through the Internet. Give a new meaning to flaming.

This is EXACTLY the sort of garbage I voted Bush for, in order to put a complete halt to it!

I am going to call my members of congress and demand that this grant be rescinded!

I want the attacks on our RKBA stopped, ALL of them.

Unless you personalize knives, hammers, bats, cars, rope, plastic bags, pencils, staircases, bathtubs, and everything else that someone could use to kill someone, the amount of lives that will be saved will probably not even net out to zero.

Although, I have another take on this technology. Suppose it could be made to work reliably. It would take away the only semi-decent argument of the anti-gun crowd about weapons falling into the wrong hands. No more reason to limit to 10 round mags. No reason to ban "assault weapons". Maybe we could apply the technology to fully automatic machine guns and RPGs, opening them up to private ownership by law abiding citizens. Put it on the steering wheel of an Abrams tank so anyone with several millions dollars to spend could have one heck of an SUV.

It was gay leaders and gay advocates like Andrew Sullivan who forced this issue into the election battle. By circumventing the legislative process, by selecting an arrogant and undemocratic judiciary and an anarchist mayor to attempt to force a victory on this issue the gay left also forced the President and his party to seek a legislative remedy to defend the interests of their conservative and religious base.

Ditto

This is just more crap for the lawyers to litigate over as well. "Sir you have to be guilty because your smart gun only recognizes you."

Pretty ominous in more ways than one.

Exactly ask anyone that has lost electric power and went to grab a flashlight in an emergency power outage only to discover that the batterys had died from sitting around for years unused! If that happens the only thing you gotta worry about is a stubbed toe.But if your smart gun batterys go dead after years and years and years of not being needed you would be totally screwed in an emergency such as home invasion.

I think all gun grabbers need to be charged with 290 million counts of attemped murder or whatever the final total was for the us census in 2000 and the should be sentenced to deportation to cambodia so they can see first hand the end results of thier completly F**KED up policys
