Did Guardian turn Ohio to Bush?

Did Guardian turn Ohio to Bush?

US journalists have identified the 'Guardian Effect' Was it "the Guardian wot swung it" is the somewhat tongue-in-cheek question for analysts following George Bush's presidential election victory. Specifically, was the "Guardian Effect" to blame for the pro-Bush swing in one Ohio county?

In the run up to the US presidential election, the left-wing paper identified the area as a vote-swingers hotspot.

Under Operation Clark County, it began a letter-writing campaign which aimed to give people outside the US a say in the election.

Opposite result

The project set up its readers as pen pals with American voters, to press home the international ramifications of a vote for Republican George Bush or Democrat John Kerry.

Did The Guardian's arrogance make some people in Clark County mad enough to vote FOR President Bush and against Hanoi John Kerry and help President Bush win in Clark County? You bet!
Was that the main reason why President Bush won in Ohio? No way.
President Bush won by a massive 136,483 votes in Ohio.
Takes much more than a bunch of "stupid, yellow-toothed English pansies" to do that. :-)

Methinks the GOP GOTV effort had more to do with it. But I would love the Marxist nitwits at the Guardian to think they joined the Kerry campaign precision shoot-your-foot drill squadron.

Of course it wasn't the Guardian, but let them think it was so they'll STFU in the future...

But Clark County did swing from blue in 2000 to red in 2004. Quite a significant edge for Bush there this time around. Was it the "Guardian Effect"?

Well, as much as I'd like to think so, likely not the decisive factor. Bush actually lost votes statewide compared to 2000. But he still came out ahead of Kerry because of the GOTV effort, especially in the rural and suburban areas.

I think the Guardian cost Kerry some votes in Ohio. It's hard to know how many, but the main effect was to increase voter turnout by Bush supporters who otherwise might not have voted.

Regardless, the Guardian failed. I haven't yet seen the Ohio voter who claimed to switch his vote to Kerry after the newspaper's campaign began.

doubt it.

however, since it apparently was on the democratic playbook to target Ohio WELL before the actual election, and since apparently every leftwing operator including the Guardian was on board and used whatever influence they had for the cause, it is a most poetic justice.

You know, you are right! I own and operate a Nursery, and pansies certainly are misnamed! They are tough little flowers that can take very cold temperatures. So, calling a "pussy" a "pansie"..........oh, just getting in deeper here!

;-)

Absolutely--we could not have done it without the help of butting in liberal Brits and their newpaper of record.

Thanks Guardian. You help usher in the dawning of worlwide consrvatism.

Where were all of the e-mail addresses and phone numbers that someone published for the Guardian editors/staff?

We should put together a writing/calling campaign thanking them for helping put W back in office.

I can't see many votes going *to* Bush because of this, but could see increased turnout on our side in response.

But I think GOTV had far more effect anyway.
