Analysis: Bush won 40%+ in 47 states. Kerry under 40% in 13 states. MANDATE!

Bush received at least 40% of the popular vote in all but MA, RI, and VT. And he still won at least 37% of the votes in those states (9% in DC). This block where Bush is arguably "out of touch" with local interests represents only 21 electoral votes.

Contrast Kerry, who failed to achieve even 40% support in 13 states comprising 102 electoral votes (8 of them with less than 37% of the vote.

So, which candidate is a uniter, and which is a divider?

OK, here's a quiz for you: Bush was 63/37 in North Dakota and 37/62 in Massachusetts.

How likely do you think it is that the Democrats would EVER, EVER, EVER under any circumstances run a noncompetitive candidate for the US Senate in Massachusetts? What's the chance of that happening? About zero?

So HOW ON EARTH could the Republicans lie down for Byron Dorgan in ND this year? Who are they going to run against Kent Conrad in 2006?

Pundits keep saying GWB is the first president since F. Roosevelt to get reelected while his party gained seats in both houses of Congress. I assume they do not include Johnson in this because when Lyndon ran in '64 he had not been elected to his first time. But he did carry in huge Demo majorities that time.

I had thought GWB was the first Republican president since the great Calvin Coolidge to get reelected while gaining seats for the GOP in both houses. But there again, Coolidge had not been elected to his first term. When he ran in 1924 that was his one and only election as president. I'll have to check on the McKinley election of 1900 to see if Republicans gained in Congress that time.

LOL...I can't summarize it. It's a detailed JPEG at the very safe California Secretarty of State's website. Showing county by county results, for 2000 versus 2004. It's worth clicking.
