If you never heard of him then you must not follow politics. Elected in 1969, he is the most senior Republican in the House of Representatives and a conservative.

Best known for his opposition of Carter's Panama Canal giveaway, he also ran for President in 1980.

I've been a regular poster at this site since 1998, which I think says SOMETHING about whether I follow politics or not, and I never heard of the guy. Sorry.

I follow politics and never heard of him --- this is the blame of the RNC for thier mealy-mouth bowing before the dims on the house floor.

Hopefully after THIS win they may get a little backbone that isn't so damned YELLOW!

They are SUPPOSED to be Republicans!
