Bush received more votes than Ronald Reagan in 1984. And absentee ballots can boost it over 60 million. Not bad for a campaign that was four years in the planning and executed with military precision. I mean the Democrats had the wind to their backs, Bush wasn't the best candidate and the mainstream media was looking to get their man installed and they still lost. If there's anything that needs to be known about America today, its not a liberal country.

...and he received the largest popular vote of any American president since the founding of the republic.
How meaningful is that claim, in truth? It sounds good at first hearing, but isn't Kerry's total popular vote the 2nd most ever? More a function of population increase, isn't it?

Uh.. the last wartime Commander-in-Chief to be reelected won 49 states to 1. Within two years the enemies within ran Nixon out of office. (Come on! Was Nixon the first / only president to do those "awful" things?) Be alert. The Rats' campaign for 2008 could begin as the campaign for 1976 did, the destruction of a Republican president. Be prepared. (Dry powder and all that stuff.)

He traded 4 for 13 electoral votes. CNN can't even get its math straight! Er, make that 4 for 12.

You sure about that? I thought WV was Gore in 00... oh well my bust...
Doesn't matter, Iowa and NM are going to go Bush, and Bush did better in nearly ever state this time in terms of total number and percentage of vote than he did in 2000... to try to argue no mandate is comical!
Republicans routed the dems across the country. Net gain of 4 Senate seats!

But in addition to the popular vote margin of four million, Bush bettered his percentage in 40 of 50 states. I thought I saw a posting earlier today that showed he only lost percentage in one state--Vermont--and stayed flat in only three others (maybe four at the most), which would mean he had improved his percentage in at least 45 of the 50 states.

The best part about NM is Bill Richardson having to eat his words. He predicted a Kerry win once all the hispanic votes were counted.
