A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....11-01-04....Military Monday

A Few of FR's Finest
....Every Day
FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues; salute and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which we can express ourselves.
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I could no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I had been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.
Still that didn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why we've created a place for just that. This is a friendly room in JimRob's house where FReeper FRiends can gather every day and just say hello if that's all they want to do.
There's more of course. We sometimes feature different FReepers, with a little background information on who they are and what makes them who they are, along with a few photos you might not have seen on other threads; sometimes others write an essay for us to post as the feature for the day; sometimes our presentation is a human interest story found elsewhere that you might not have read; sometimes special holiday threads; but whatever the topic of the day, it is always with FR's Finest in mind and that is YOU!
If you would like to be featured, or would like to see someone else featured, please send me a private FR mail.
Every Monday we will post the photos of FR's Military Personnel that I have collected and put into groups; these will be available to view through a link the remainder of the week - every day just a click away. :)   If you would like to add a photo of yourself or a loved one in the military, past or present, please let me know; I will hold it until I have enough for a new group.
Thank you, and please have fun with us...every day! ~ Billie

The Pine Looper

Read: Jeremiah 17:1-10

He shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river. —Jeremiah 17:8

Bible In One Year: Jeremiah 24-26; Titus 2

In the summer of 1992, a fire blackened 4,500 acres of forest about 35 miles north of Atlantic City. One homeowner saw a fireball with 60-foot flames come roaring up across the street from his house, before veering away. The Associated Press quoted him as saying, "I've worked 25 years of my life here. The thought of having it gone in 10 minutes makes you want to stay for the last possible minute."

The fire was difficult to contain because of dry conditions. The forest was dry despite rainfall, partly because of an insect called the pine looper, which defoliates trees.

The dry-tree condition behind this New Jersey fire has a parallel in the history of Israel. Jeremiah said that his countrymen had become like dry shrubs in a desert rather than green trees by a river (17:6-8). Even more alarming, he said they had aroused the fire of God's anger (v.4) by trusting in man and departing from the Lord (v.5). For Christians today, it's life's fiery trials that threaten to scorch our souls if we're trusting in our own strength.

Father, forgive us for making ourselves dry and leafless. Without Your mercy, we would be consumed when the heat comes. Teach us to root ourselves in the river of Your sufficiency. —Mart De Haan

The person who relies upon
The Lord's sufficiency
Is like a tree that's planted by
Deep waters flowing free. —Sper

The fires of life will not destroy you if you're watered by the River of Life.

Good morning!
I am nervous about tomorrow but confident in our President!

That about sums it up!
I'm praying so hard for Bush! And if events do not turn out as we are hoping, then I am praying that he will be at peace and find a nice, relaxing retirement ahead of him.
He deserves it!

Good morning. Thank you Mayor for your wonderful Monday morning cup of coffee and bread of God's word.

I'm glad you had a good time at the rally Phancy. I too will be spending the day in prayer for tomorrow. I pray that the person God wants in office is elected with no room for debate.

I agree! I really feel that the President will take over 50% of the vote.
The main thing is to make sure everyone you know Votes!

I think everyone I know, knows...I'm sure they are all sick of hearing me talk about it! Since I voted early, I've been offering to babysit so that others don't have an excuse not to go to the polls! :)

To: The Mayor; All

Good morning Mayor and FR's Finest!

Thank you for another Military Monday thread.

As we all know, tomorrow is the big election.

I pray that President Bush wins. Not just for our sake, but for our military.

President Clinton really demoralized our military with his pathetic attempt to be all things to all people--except the military.

He dishonored their sacrifice and belittled their honor.

A man who is willingly opened to using the Sailor and Soldiers Act to protect himself from legal issues is a man of low regard.

This is not merely a referendum on where America is headed, but also a decision about who we trust to lead our military.

Do we want to return to the days of Bubba and company? Do we want to return power back to a Party who feels our Troops are "baby killers"?

I should hope not. I'm praying not.

God Bless America, President Bush, and our military.

It should speak volumes when soldiers say that they will not reenlist if Kerry is president. Although by duty, they have to support the president, I know they will until the day their enlistment it up, but I know of at least one that will not stay in if Kerry is elected. I think it's sad that someone that unqualified to lead our military is even running for office.

I agree 100%!

I remember what kerry did in the 70's
I was a teenager and remember the protests.
I remember watching kerry testify to congress.

I remember what this country was like then, I don't want to see a repeat of it.
He does everything he can to turn the people against the troops and the war, just like then.

See john skerry! We remember, we will not forget!

It is nice to hear someone who lived through his Vitnam garbage agree. It's been really hard to try to discern what is truth, and what is partial truth. Fortunately God told me who to vote for! Since then, even more facts have come to light.

Well, I have mom's group this morning, so I'm outta here until later. Hope everyone has a good Monday! It's a new month! :)

Soldiers' ballots arriving from overseas in record numbers

October 29, 2004

Our troops serving in Iraq and elsewhere around the world are keeping local election officials busy. A record number of soldiers who call Bell and Coryell Counties home have voted.

Bell County Clerk Vada Sutton has received close to 5,000 ballots from our troops stationed in Iraq and other bases overseas.

“I had more this year than I ever have,” she says.

And they're still coming in. Bell County election officials continue to open ballots from our soldiers.

In Coryell County, where a portion of Fort Hood sits, 2,000 absentee ballots were requested by our troops. So far, 1,200 have come back. In Bell County, more than 7,000 ballots were requested and almost 5,000 have made it home.

According to law, ballots coming from overseas can be received up to five days after the election, so Bell County could receive close to 6,000 absentee ballots.

“It's a great number,” Sutton says. “Usually, you don't get but about 50% of those back.”

It won't be until after 7pm on Tuesday that the results are reported.
