Florida Republicans cry foul over registration of banned voters
The Sydney Morning Herald. / The New York Times ^ | November 1, 2004 | unknown

Miami: The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said it would wait until after the presidential election to investigate Republican charges that nearly 1000 convicted felons had illegally requested absentee ballots or already voted early.

The state Republican Party said it had combed a list of suspected felons and found 925, mostly Democrats, who had not had their voting rights restored, but had requested ballots or voted early.

But the announcement drew instant criticism because Governor Jeb Bush scrapped the list of 48,000 suspected felons last summer after revelations that it was inaccurate.

Mindy Tucker Fletcher, senior adviser to the Florida Republican Party, said it had not decided whether to use the list to challenge voters. She said the party had sent the names to election supervisors, who, it was hoped, would "spend the weekend following up".

Florida is among a handful of states that permanently strips all people convicted of felonies of the right to vote. Many who seek reinstatement do not get it.

In 2000 an unknown number of legal voters were mistakenly removed from the Florida rolls after ending up on a list of suspected felons that a company working for the state compiled.

In Broward County, where thousands of people have complained that their absentee ballots never arrived in the mail, election officials said on Friday that about 9000 replacement ballots had been mailed out on Thursday and 3000 more would go out on Friday, mostly to Democratic voters. The elections supervisor, Brenda Snipes, said 60 per cent of the 128,000 ballots her office mailed out had been returned.

Jeb and Glenda have this under control. Bush wins Florida - - bet the house on it.

I was pretty pessimistic about how shaky FL seemed to be before, but now I'm quite confident about it (regardless of Kerry's supposed early-vote lead and the Gallup poll). FL is indeed in good hands in Brother Jeb and Glenda Hood--I will eat my hat if W doesn't win the state.

Sigh. Everytime I think I've reached the maximal level of disgust one can feel for the MSM, they go for a lower blow, to whit;

In 2000 an unknown number of legal voters were mistakenly removed from the Florida rolls after ending up on a list of suspected felons that a company working for the state compiled.

Where there any attempt at balance here, the section would read;

In 2000 an unknown number of legal voters were mistakenly removed from the Florida rolls after ending up on a list of suspected felons that a company working for the state compiled, though no voter has since been found to have been wrongly denied the right to vote after extensive investigation, and in fact several thousand felons did manage to cast a ballot, illegally, in the 2000 election.

Everyone consider that Jeb BLEW AWAY his opponent in 2002. This, despite the rats pouring all their attention into that election as "revenge" for al gore in 2K. It may be two years later, but I suspect, judging by the screams from the rat camp, they still have found an adequate way to cheat the new system.

I've been away for a bit, so I haven't caught the whole story here - so - please forgive if I'm beating a dead horse....

The last news I heard was that about 60,000 ballots were "missing". Now I read:

In Broward County, where thousands of people have complained that their absentee ballots never arrived in the mail, election officials said on Friday that about 9000 replacement ballots had been mailed out on Thursday and 3000 more would go out on Friday, mostly to Democratic voters. The elections supervisor, Brenda Snipes, said 60 per cent of the 128,000 ballots her office mailed out had been returned.

Why would 60% of the ballots be returned (to sender??)? Were the adresses of the registrant wrong?

It seems to me to be more of a scandal against the Democratic Registations than some VRWC . . .

If anyone has any "background", I would appreciate it....

It means that they were returned because they were filled out by the absentee voter that requested the ballot. It does not say the postal authorities returned them as unable to deliver because addresses were bogus. The wording is a bit confusing,but it simply means they were mailed back to the Supervisor of Elections.

This "lost ballots" thing is a hedge for Kerry to suddenly produce the numbers need to win in a close FL election. Count on it.

Drudge's radio show painted a different picture of how early voters (1/3 of FL voters) are voting and it was *strongly* Kerry.

Then there is the question of "Provisional" ballots here in Florida. ANYONE can vote. Yes, that means even if you are not on the register of voters you will be given a Provisional ballot and allowed to vote after filling out a oath of who you are.

Everyone should keep an eye on these Provisional ballots. They could mean the election.

Bush will win Florida, and ACORN and the other fraud perps will get convicted.

This is exactly what needs to happen. The time where you can simply say, "Well, we won, let's not worry too much about fraud." are long past. After we win, we need to pursue voter fraud with a zeal that will stun the democrats and other socialists everywhere. And, being after the elections, the dems will probably be licking their wounds rather than anxious to fight a fight that makes them look really, really bad.

I still want a national voter registry, even if its only used in national elections. That would prune out tons of dual voters which are overwhelmingly democrats. Make it a felony with a one-year sentence and a $1000 fine. Let the judges usually suspend the sentence but impose the full fine to chill further outbreaks of such activity.
