Kerry's comment came at the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, in Miami, Fla., last month. It's a pitch he's often used in front of black audiences. The Democrats think the tactic works. The idea that Republicans disenfranchised blacks in Florida is now so ingrained in the body politic that it's become a classic urban legend.
Terry McAuliffe, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), vowed, "We're going to have 10,000 lawyers working. I've promised everyone this year we're going to make sure that every single vote is counted. We know what happened in the 2000 presidential election." You may know, Terry, but we don't know. It's also apparent that most Americans don't know.
Vague allegations are thrown around by the Democratic Party -- by its leaders, its operatives and their sympathetic media mouthpieces, who constantly harangue and demagogue about just how awful the gross disenfranchisement of the 2000 election in Florida was. D'oh. What disenfranchisement? Gee, what actually happened back then? How, precisely, did the Republicans stop blacks and others, presumably Democrats, from voting?
Well, um, they didn't.
The main Florida "problem," if you can even call it that, was related to hanging chads. One would think that if you punched a hole out in a ballot and a bit of paper was hanging out, that was meant to be a vote. Fair enough. But there were also the "pregnant" chads, ones pushed a little bit but simply not punched out at all the way. Those, it seems, should not have been counted.
How the Democrats can concoct a theory that these irregularities were all part of a Republican conspiracy is simply mind boggling...

I really hope that happens. A truly seismic shift, if so. Just 18%, that's all I ask.
I heard a 527 ad today that repeated the claim that Bush let Saudis out of the country when all the other planes were grounded. Lies are the staple of Democrat politics.
At first I wanted to vomit whenever I heard this canard repeated, but sadly now I'm numb to it.
PS I was stuck in traffic flipping radio channels and made the mistake of hearing Chales Osgood on WC-BS radio on 88 am in NY. He was reporting on Kerry and Edwards, their claims about disenfranchisement and their assurances to their voters that they have an army of lawyers to combat it. I was dumb enough to be waiting for the follow up, the critique of the claims, but it never came. The report just ended.
What a crock of crud! I won't listen to that staion again, even if I need a traffic report right away. I'll sit in traffic.
I've been in the information business for 20 years. 15 years ago I looked forward to the day when information storage and retrieval would make it unlikely that lies could last long without wilting under the light of truth. I really believed that could happen. Now I offer a theorem to interpret the phenomenon that counters my earlier belief. I suggest: No system of information storage and retrieval can overcome the ability of people to misinterpret, misrepresent and otherwise misuse that information.
Facts are stubborn things. Blacks make up 11% of the Florida electorate. however, in the 2000 election they made up 17% of the votes in Florida. If that's "disenfranchisement" give me more. The major media is collective bunch of Kerry loving nitwits.
This goes on everywhere, and if it's going on everywhere that means that voters of all colors and stripes are running into it. Where are the disenfranchised Asians? Mexicans? Euros? Californians?
If the Democrats are saying that these problems disproportionately affect black people more than others, then they are saying that black people are less able to cope with them than others. In other words, blacks are dumber than others.
Think about it. And they call Republicans the racists.

I've listened to this "disenfranchisement" drivel since 2000 here in FL. Really getting tired of hearing the same old claims again. The hearings they had on the matter brought witnesses that claimed to be "disenfranchised" yet all had been allowed to vote on election day. As stated above, this myth is kept alive by the dems just as so many other myths & outright lies are to help keep their minority voters. Fortunately people are getting wiser to the truth.
And if anyone is intimidating voters this year, it's falling at the feet of the dummies in great numbers. I voted early and there were more idiots with signs and literature well inside the permitted areas than I've EVER seen. All infractions were of course...yep you guessed it, done by dimocraps and reported. I can only think of what is going on elsewhere.
Yes Warrior, that was "disenfranchisement" just as the pubbie plan in '95 was to "cut" school lunches. Politics is about emotions, not facts, at least for most. Do we need to defeat the major media and their fanning of emotion? We can't eliminate emotions from political discourse. Can we cut it back in media discourse without a fairness doctrine?
And, they didn't even testify to disenfranchisement. Typical was of the nature of "I drove to the polls and saw a police cruiser on the way and I was intimidated."
That sort of testimony was similar to the Saturday Night Live skit of the Salem Bitch Trials. Guest host Shannon Daugherty was being tried as a bitch in 17th century Salem, MA. Chris Farley testified that he asked her to go out with him and she wouldn't go out with him. The spectators at the trial shouted "She's a bitch!" She was convicted and burned according to the postscript.
