My friends who live in Michigan will be voting Bush. I think there is a chance.

I talked to my brother in Michigan yesterday and he says they are wild over Bush. Bush signs are all over and very few skerry signs...

What is difficult to overcome in a state like Michigan is the huge metro area that comes with it. The people you see are enthusiastic about Bush. Unfortunately, there are over a million kool-aid drinkers in Detroit that cancel out the rest of the state.

Anytime you hear 15,0000 people cheering for you its going to lift your spirit!

he finally said "thank you, you have lifted our spirits". Usually you say, "you lifted our spirits" when you are feeling kind of down

My thought (woman's intuition???!) was that that particular remark had something to do with the release of the OBL tape -- which must not have been something he wanted to hear. I think that he found such enthusiasm in the face of a threat most heartening.

How many non-Bush supporters do you reckon attend those rallies to get their minds changed?

Within your point lies the important truth - that is how much of your base can you activate to enthusiastically go to the polls & work to bring others and an indicator of that passion is how many people you can get to attend these events. I remember in 1996 concluding Dole was cooked for the very reason that I attended one of his rallies at this point in the campaign and it near exactly mirrored the degree of enthuiasm I see at John Kerry's events.

I phone banked at the Victory Center in East Lansing this morning, 9am to noon. It was incredible. Standing room only, volunteers actually WAITING to get a phone and help out, streams of people coming in to volunteer as poll watchers and challengers, people coming in to grab walk lists and getting out to canvas...all of these folks spending some precious time on a gorgeous fall day to win the mitten for W.

It was fantastic.

We are going to the Cincinnati rally tomorrow. Is there anything I should know pertaining to what we can take in such as cameras, signs, etc.

Let this Halloween weekend and next Tuesday's vote scare the pants off Kerry and his ilk.

Glad you got to attend this. I am praying my little heart out that GWB takes MI as he has been working pretty hard for it!

"It disturbed me a little that in Ohio when everyone kept cheering for over five minutes he finally said "thank you, you have lifted our spirits". Usually you say, "you lifted our spirits" when you are feeling kind of down. Maybe it was just a poor choice of words, but I hope they are optimistic about winning."

Read the thread regarding the edited portion of the Osama tape having threats directly at the Bush family and others in the Cabinet.

Laura looked concern behind GWB in Columbus.

The SS looked especially active and attentive during that rally.

That's why the Pres had his "spirits lifted" by the crowd.

What kind of an area is Grand Rapids. Republican or Democrat?

Home of AMWAY nearby. Betsy DeVos head of Republican Party in Michigan (at least I think) lives in Grand Rapids.

This is Michael Moore's home state too. That would be a dagger through his heart.

Sorry I missed it! I'd wanted to find out when the next one was, plus I wanted to wave at any protestors I recognized. :')

Hey there, my daughter and I were there too, right up front, got Laura Bush's autograph on my giant W sign. Local Tv said 17,000. Bush was awesome, he's got the MOJO for sure.

I was at the Bush rally Saturday morning (meaning I have now been up for 20 hours:) Anyway, I noticed the same thing about the First Lady in Grand Rapids. They were also almost 45 minutes late which is so unlike the President, especially since it was their first campaign stop of the day.

There were probably around 15,000+ there. The rally was held at a convention/exhibition center without any permanent seating. They had some portable bleachers and chairs brought in but thousands and thousands of us stood. Doors opened at 6:00 AM, we got there at 7:00 and stood for about 3 hours waiting for the President. I'm not complaining though, it was great to see the President and feel the energy of the crowd.

They had phone banks at the venue for volunteers after the rally. We walked neighborhoods. Something we will be doing all day Monday too.

I thought these rallies were held for the following reasons:

1. To energize the base.
2. To create publicity for Bush in the local and national media.
