Bill O'Reilly settled a sexual harassment lawsuit by his former producer last night, ending what he called a "brutal ordeal" without an apology.
The Fox News talk show host also agreed to drop his extortion suit against Andrea Mackris and her attorney, Benedict Morelli, according to a statement by O'Reilly's lawyer. The deal likely involves payment of millions of dollars to Mackris, since the two sides were discussing an offer of well over $2 million when negotiations broke down, say sources close to O'Reilly. Both parties agreed to keep the details confidential, according to the statement.
O'Reilly told viewers, in language cleared by the lawyers, that there was "no wrongdoing in the case whatsoever by anyone" -- and appeared to dispute, without specifically doing so, some of the lurid details of what Mackris alleged were phone-sex conversations between them. "Please do not believe everything you hear and read," he said on "The O'Reilly Factor."
The top-rated cable news host has said he was humiliated by the suit, which charged that he spoke to Mackris about sexual fantasies, masturbation and vibrators while sometimes seeming to pleasure himself. But for O'Reilly to strike a settlement without an expression of regret, which is often demanded in litigation against high-profile figures, is a partial victory that spares him further embarrassment.
Morelli did not respond to requests for comment last night.

I didn't follow this thing, but it seems like it was settled very quickly. Whatever.
He settled faster than Michael Jackson.
O'Reilly's a low life, still, but this was a lagal extortion case. She nneded dough.
She shoulda just asked in the first place.
The lawyer world we live in now is horrible.
Go to his site www.billoreilly.com
He has a poll for who is going to win the election
I thought O'Reiley said that the suit was dropped by the judge because there is zero evidence? I didn't hear of a settlement.
Did he post his resume on the site as well? He's going to be looking for a job soon.
That's because Mr. Middle of the Road O'Reilly is guilty as charged. I guess someone failed to warn O'Reilly that the middle of the road is the most dangerous place to be!!! Hopefully Fox will replace him with a REAL conservative.

He's already decided. He asked one of his guests tonight: "When" John Kerry wins....
If the election is hopefully happily over on the 3rd, the Peterson case has gone to the jury on the 2nd, O'Reilly has settled already, Kobe's case is dropped...What will Greta and Geraldo and Rita Cosby and Larry King, etc, talk about??
I quit watching him a long time ago. Couldn't handle the ego.

BeldarBlog (a lawyer) has a nice analysis at:
Mackris/O'Reilly et al. litigation settles with a whisper, not a bang

Hate to lay this on you, but the Robert Blake trial starts on Monday, and of course, the Michael Jackson case is still out there. So we are doomed to more legal cr*p, piled higher and deeper. The legal talking heads it appears will have an endless supply of cases to discuss, much to the detriment of the viewing public. Ugh.
Just take away Bill's phone.
O'Reilly couldn't afford a trial. The lurid details had already slipped out and he needed to get this thing behind him fast. If I were him I would worry if there were other women who will come out the closet because he settled on this one. I bet this isn't the first time O'Reilly has done this. The guy is so full of himself, I hate watching him.
I always thought Bill was an OK guy, but I know that if this had happened to Brokaw, Rather, or Jennings, he would have lambasted them. Like I always say, I never praise the MAN, but the message. The man is a pig like all of us, but the message is what matters.
I guess he figured a trial would be worse than that scenario.
I don't know about O'reilly, but the lady got the money she'd always wanted.
