Decimation is the intentional killing of exactly 10 of exactly 100 of troops under your command. It was a Roman punishment, generally for cowardice or grossly disobeying orders in combat. To suggest that any US force has ever been decimated is insulting. I think that the word you were looking for is "devastated".
