Bush will prevail
Americans are smart enough not to buy Democrats' rants
By Paul Jackson -- Calgary Sun
HOUSTON --This state really is the heartbeat of America, just as Alberta is the heartbeat of Canada.
Trouble is, the Democrats here recognize Texas' economic vitality and moral values no more than the Liberals recognize Alberta's economic vitality and moral values.
That's why both Democrats and Liberals respectively demean Texas and Alberta at every opportunity.
We threaten their amoral way of life.
The Democrats try to paint a caricature of President George W. Bush in much the same way the Liberals did of Preston Manning, Stockwell Day and Stephen Harper.
Jean Chretien's and Paul Martin's slurs against Manning, Day and Harper worked in Canada, but Americans are a little more politically sophisticated. Sure, Bill Clinton sold them a bill of goods for two terms, but even Democrats daren't slur Ronald Reagan, the greatest American president since Harry Truman, incidentally, a right-wing Democrat.
Still, the Democrats like to paint Bush as a fool, which, if you think about it, is pretty hard to do to a man who got a degree from Yale University in 1968, served in the Texas National Guard as a jetfighter pilot from 1968-70, and then got a degree from Harvard University in 1975.
No matter what your father did for a living, you can't buy degrees from these universities.
Further evidence that the Lib-Left is running an unconscionable smear campaign against Bush is that at Yale, he was elected president of his fraternity, Delta Kappa Epsilon, and in the national guard attained the rank of lieutenant.
It's true, Bush fumbled his way through two TV debates in the current campaign, which is hard to explain, since on the stump, Bush gives better speeches day after day.
Don't forget, this is the man who beat former Texas governor Ann Richards in TV debates -- and votes -- in 1994.
Now, anyone who has seen Richards perform, or on Larry King Live, knows this feisty old dame is no easy mark. She's as tough as nails, and as an attractive a candidate as you could possibly get, yet Bush beat her hands down.
That's why he's president of the U.S. today.
Also, why he'll still be president of the U.S. on Nov. 3 and be inaugurated for a second term next year.
Look, too, at vice-president, Dick Cheney, a successful businessman, who made his personal fortune honourably, while would-be vice-president John Edwards is a class action lawyer suing anyone he could, so long as he got a big share of the settlement in his own bank account.
Who is a better choice for vice-president, a sharp, self-serving lawyer, or a proven and steady leader like Dick Cheney?
Remember, too, the last lawyer in the White House was so dishonest he had to "voluntarily" hand over his licence to practice to avoid being disbarred.
Even Richard Nixon, a much maligned man, never had to do that. Despite Liberal slurs, Nixon's hands were clean.
Kerry, in my opinion a political charlatan -- or chameleon, if you want to be nicer -- was one of 14 senators to vote against the defence of marriage bill, while proclaiming to be a Roman Catholic. He also voted against more funding for the military, while proclaiming himself a war hero.
War hero? He "won" five medals spending only four months in Vietnam.
What kind of medals are these?
One guesses the kind you get in breakfast cereal boxes.
Which is likely why he pretended to throw them away after he became an anti-Vietnam veteran.
But that was when it was popular to be anti-Vietnam.
Now it's popular to be pro-Vietnam -- or a Vietnam war hero -- so that's what he is again.
The Democrats rail against Bush's service in the Texas National Guard. They suggest that, unlike Kerry, he pulled strings to avoid service in Vietnam, but ignore their own draft-dodger, the skirt-chasing Clinton.
This disgraced president hid out in Britain on a Rhodes Scholarship during the Vietnam war.
What hypocrisy these Democrats and Lib-Lefters have.
The Lib-Left try to make us forget Bush actually volunteered for service in Vietnam as a fighter pilot, (a hazardous task, just ask Senator John McCain,) but was turned down.
He'd served his time.
Yet truth must be blurred in this campaign.
The dark shadows of Kerry's life must be protected.
Alberta is Canada's only hope of regaining its greatness.
I would like to believe this is true . . . but on the surface, this election just looks to close for comfort, on knife's edge. Just because we want to believe and hope W will win and that Americans will give him a 2nd term, doesn't mean it will happen. Well, we'll see on Tuesday if this kind of happy juice talk was just that.
And pigs will fly
Yes they are, but are they numerous enough to overcome all the fraud that's going to occur Tuesday next?
Mr. Jackson,
I wish everyone in the US was from Texas. I'm a misplaced southerner in the midst of liberal-labor-loving Michigan and I wish I were in Texas during this election season.
Unfortunately, some Americans (i.e., Kerry supporters who I've been talking to in the past few weeks) would rather take a chance on national security in the hopes of getting some type of government payoff, or would just like to see the so-called "rich" payup. In my view, they would make a deal with the devil in order to avoid controversy with our international neighbors.
This is a war for the heart and soul of America. Let us turn to God so he can heal our land.
I lovre Calgary...I was there in 1988 for the last ten days of the Winter Olympics...great place!
Lets just hope that Texas remains Texas in the wake of unending mass immigration.
Democrats have now earned my eternal hatred for their abhorrent tactics and unprincipled attacks undermining America and the American President.
HOpe you are right.
I don't have faith in the American sheeple.
I feel like an island in a sea of idiots!
I had to rub my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things! This is from Canada? Wow!
If this were really true, there'd be no need to overcome lying and cheating by the "uncivilized sector."
Yes, I say hope and pray for the best, but prepare for the worst.
Calgary Herald ping.
Agreed. I'd even go so far as to suggest that the U.S. would do well to emulate Alberta's best attributes.
Here's hoping he's right!

Looks like you're very confident. When I see so many Kerry signs in people's yards, it makes you wonder about the state of America's heart and soul. At a like this, when 3,000+ citizens have been murdered and we're at war; how could a person like Kerry even be a viable candidate? It can't be all media hype. ?Eh?
