A lot of people who listen to O'Reilly's TV show and haven't read the court papers will believe him. On the other hand, those who listen to his radio show have seen the real O'Reilly, the sex guy.

If how she conducted this has been accurately reported,
it looked like blackmail (extortion) to me. It failed all
the requirements for how one conducts a harrassment complaint.
We suppose she had tapes. If BoR also had tapes, of the
negotiations, he may have had a slam-dunk civil (and
felony) case against her. If so, he keeps his money, and
she stays out of jail. She might even have had to pay him
for his legal expenses.
But since it's apparent that no one is going to tell us,
it could also be that he coughed up some dough.
Nasty, NASTY! Beware of phones. You don't know who was doing what with them.
As long as his ratings stay up, Roger Ailes could care less what O'Reilly's reputation is.

Keep in mind that at his level, family = career. When you say "I had to protect my career" it makes much more sense. Even if he was actually protecting his family, well either way it's clear she had tapes or other hard evidence. If she didn't, Fox would have came down on her hard.
O'Reilly has his moments, but your right, you can't look at him the same way - he's just another middle-aged perv, much like Bill Clinton and others in that category. Maybe it's a power trip thing, who knows.

The damage to O'Reilley has been done and that is probably what her handlers wanted anyway. He will not bounce back as easily as Rush did. Maybe not at all.
O"Reilly may assume that the bump in his ratings is support. For the most part its not. It's rubbernecking. I suppose alledged pervs are fascinating.
I didn't know that his ratings were up...but I agree that it's for the reason you say.
I know that I won't be watching again...and not because of the alleged harrassment because I don't think it actually happened. I think his schtick has been overdone and he's not fair and balanced. He's too show biz. Boring.

I believe he did it with her encouragement. Why else wouldn't they produce the tapes. The tapes probably made both parties look sleazy. But if Bill won't talk about it , don't worry. A WHOLE LOT of people will.
