Karl, who is Douglas Hagmann?

Avoiding the temptation to ask if he's related to Larry Hagmann but can't go there, must not go there... :^}

There is ZERO chance that Hagmann has anything new (or real) about that tape. No chance. Second, he is really boring on radio so I'd skip it anyway.

I hope you're not one of his subscribers. His site is bad news, in my opinion.

On the other hand, one of these days he might get something right by accident.

The al Qaeda Tape Furor – Reality Check
The Videotape

An hour-long videotape apparently released by al-Sahab Enterprises, the public relations arm of al Qaeda was reportedly obtained by ABC News in Waziristan, Pakistan last weekend. The tape is narrated by a terrorist who identifies himself as “Assam the American”, (pictured at left) a man tentatively identified as 26 year-old Adam Gadhan (a/k/a Adam Pearlman), a California native who was named by the FBI last May as someone likely to be involved in or have knowledge of the next al Qaeda attacks. Videotaped with his face concealed by a head dress, he spoke with an American accent and promised that the next attack will dwarf 9/11. He further stated "The streets will run with blood," and "America will mourn in silence" because they will be unable to count the number of the dead. The speaker added that “America has brought this on itself for electing George Bush who has made war on Islam by destroying the Taliban and making war on Al Qaeda.”

The videotape was apparently made within the last few months as the speaker makes references to the conflict in Darfur, the 9/11 Commission and a number of other recent events. At the time of this report, the CIA has yet to authenticate the videotape or provide further public analysis of the footage, although sources close to the Northeast Intelligence Network suggest that the video footage will ultimately be authenticated.

The Evidence Trail

It is interesting and relevant to point out that to date, the modus operandi of al Sahab Enterprises, the reported producer of the video has been to release their video productions to Al Jazeera and further disseminate the videos via specific Internet web sites. Although there have been recent minor exceptions to the delivery and release of the Sahab products to the media, the report that ABC News obtained this videotape from a source in the mountainous Waziristan area of Pakistan “breaks tradition,” so to speak. It is also interesting to note that Secretary of State Colin Powell and 9/11 Commission member John Lehman identified that region last week as the location where Osama bin Laden and the operational command of al Qaeda and the Taliban were hiding. Just how ABC News obtained the video and how word of the video leaked less than a week before the US Presidential elections is curious at best. Certainly, it is a breach of their previous pattern of operation.

Waziristan, Pakistan Waziristan is located in the North-West Frontier Province of Pakistan, on the Afghanistan border. It is divided into North Waziristan, an extremely arid and mountainous region inhabited by farming Wazir tribes, and South Waziristan, populated by seminomad Mahsuds. Last week, Secretary of State Colin Powell and 9/11 Commission member John Lehman both stated they believed that Osama bin Laden and many al Qaeda and Taliban members were hiding in this region. From the Long Beach News Press Telegram: http://www.presstelegram.com/Stories/0,1413,204~21474~2483927,00.html

CLAREMONT — The Pentagon knows exactly where Osama bin Laden is hiding in Pakistan, it just can't get to him, a member of the 9/11 Commission said Thursday.

Commissioner John Lehman's remarks echoed those made Tuesday by Secretary of State Colin Powell, who asserted the al-Qaeda terror kingpin was alive and operating in the western part of that country.

Bin Laden is living in South Waziristan in the Baluchistan Mountains of the Baluchistan Region, Lehman told The San Bernardino Sun after delivering a keynote speech on terrorism at Pitzer College in Claremont to kick off the university's three- day writer's festival.

Sahab Enterprises
Al Sahab Productions
Sahab Institute for Media Production

Al-Sahab Enterprises, a/k/a al Sahab Productions (al Sahab is Arabic for "the clouds") is known as the “public relations arm” of al Qaeda. “Credits” include a 105-minute video entitled "Destroying the Destroyer Cole," released on June 23, 2002 that contains images of the attack and old footage of bin Laden praising the attackers. Al Sahab productions also released a number of other terrorist videos, including video of 9/11 hijacker Ahmad al-Ghamidi's will, and the video the “Battle of Badr al Riyadh” released on the Internet in January 2004. Many previously released tapes are of high quality and frequently show footage of vintage Osama bin Laden.

Al Sahab Enterprises is reportedly operated by a terrorist who is identified by the name “Abi Osama” [literal translation - Osama's Father]. Al Sahab reportedly had an exclusivity agreement with the Arabic news channel Al-Jazeera, where they were committed to broadcast any videotape that the production company provides about al Qaeda. In a publicized interview in 2003, Abi Osama stated: “We duplicate and edit the videotapes of the organization in special ways, and then send them to news channels, including Al-Jazeera, in response to orders issued to us.”

Possible Impact

Based on the fact that this tape was done in English and in consideration of the curious method of delivery and direct route to the western media, there are a number of unanswered questions related directly to this production. It is obvious that the tape was intended for consumption by the western media. The timing of its release also raises questions.

Tune-in tonight to Coast to Coast AM with George Noory for more details on this curious development.

What if tonight is one of "these days"? Maybe it's better to listen and discern rather than assume.

Thanks Karl. Some of their writings are plausible, it's just a matter of which? Should be interesting anyway.

Yahiye Adam Gadahn

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. - Adam Yahiye Gadahn was 17 years old when he walked into the Islamic Society of Orange County and asked for permission to worship there. The farm kid who grew up in a home with Christian roots declared himself a Muslim, ready to immerse himself in his new religion.

But his devotion eventually spiraled into trouble — and an arrest.

Gadahn, who was named Wednesday as one of seven suspected al-Qaida operatives sought by the FBI, was later expelled from the mosque after attacking an employee. Records show he pleaded guilty to assault and battery charges in June 1997 and was sentenced to two days in jail and 40 hours of community service. ...

“He was becoming very extreme in his ideas and views,” said Muzammil Siddiqi, the society’s religious director. “He must have disliked something.”

But according to court records, Gadahn failed to perform the community service, so a warrant is still outstanding for his arrest, according to the Los Angeles Times.

In May 1997, when he was 18, Gadahn was arrested on allegations of attacking Haitham "Danny" Bundakji, a well-known leader at the mosque in Garden Grove, the Times reported.

Some reports said police said Gadahn had been fired from his position as a security guard at the mosque after he was caught sleeping on the job.

But Muzammil Siddiqi, the society's religious director, who described Gadahn as tense and depressed, said mosque officials finally had to ask him to leave because of a separate fight with one of the staff. The police were not involved in this altercation and it was unrelated to the other criminal charges.

Police said that he then continued to hang around the mosque and that when Bundakji confronted him, Gadahn punched him in the face and the right shoulder, according to the Times. Bundakji, who was 56 at the time, was not seriously injured.

"He was becoming very extreme in his ideas and views," Siddiqi said. "He must have disliked something."

Gadahn's alleged journey from student of Islam to suspected terrorist startled his brother, Omar Gadahn, 17, who first heard the FBI's announcement on the news.

"I don't believe it, but I don't know. Anything is possible," he said at the family home in Santa Ana. His brother "wanted to follow what he believed and that's what he did."

Asked about allegations that his brother might be conspiring to act against the United States, the teen said he'd never heard his brother say anything against the country.

According to the FBI, Gadahn, 25, attended Al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan and served as an Al Qaeda translator. The agency said he also was associated with senior Al Qaeda lieutenant Abu Zubeida in Pakistan. He also goes by the names Adam Pearlman and Abu Suhayb Al-Amriki.

"Adam Yahiye Gadahn is being sought in connection with possible terrorist threats against the United States," the FBI said. "Although the FBI has no information indicating this individual is connected to any specific terrorist activities, the FBI would like to locate and question this person. He should be considered armed and dangerous."

"He is known to have performed translations … as part of the services he has provided to Al Qaeda," the FBI said.

Omar Gadahn, a college student, said he hasn't seen his brother in about five years. His mother last spoke to him by phone in March 2001. At that time he was in Pakistan, working at a newspaper, and his wife was about to have a child.

FBI officials in Los Angeles said Adam Gadahn was last known to be in Southern California in 1997 or 1998.

Gadahn was home-schooled at the family farm in Riverside County. He did not attend college. Omar said the family was a "more or less Christian household, but no one was particularly religious."

Omar said he doesn't know why his brother converted to Islam.

Gadahn in his online statement blasted Christianity, saying, "setting aside the blind dogmatism and charismatic wackiness," he could not be a Christian if it meant praying to Jesus and believing in the Trinity.

Gadahan wrote that he became "obsessed with demonic heavy metal music" and he "eschewed personal cleanliness and let my room reach an unbelievable state of disarray. My relationship with my parents became strained, although only intermittently so."

As he listened to "the apocalyptic ramblings of Christian radio's 'prophecy experts,'" Gadahan said the "fiery preaching" of the "Islamic threat" sparked his interest in the religion.

"Having been around Muslims in my formative years, I knew well that they were not the bloodthirsty, barbaric terrorists that the news media and the televangelists paint them to be," the statement said.

Gadahn's aunt, Nancy Pearlman, described her nephew as inquisitive and quick to learn languages. He read about several religions, she said, noting his mother's family is Catholic and he had a Jewish grandfather on his father's side.

"He was raised to be religious, to believe in a God," Pearlman said outside her Los Angeles home. "He made his own choice. We all make our own choices in life."

"There was no indication he was involved with terrorists at all," Pearlman added. "He was never fanatical. I never saw it in him."
