Angry man wants to face spineless stealers of sign
Columbia (Missouri) Daily Trib. ^ | Wednesday, October 27, 2004 | Steve Cochran

Dear Editor, the Tribune:
OK, I have had enough. I read every day in the paper about political signs being stolen from front yards. Recently, at 10:45 p.m., a sign was stolen from my front yard. I heard the jerks pull up and stop in front of my house. A car door opened, male voices were heard, the car door closed and the car drove away. My sign is gone.

I think a little Zell Miller is appropriate here. I am just one little, mild-mannered, middle-aged guy, but I don’t like my property stolen and my rights violated. Here it is. Would the gutless, spineless piles of dung that came to my house please come back? This time, stop and ring the doorbell. I promise I will personally beat the hell out of you and your extended family. Please note the nonanonymity here. Here’s my address in case you forget:

I'll have to drive by and see if he has another sign yet.

I'm sure this kind of dimwittery is even more prevalent in these college towns...

This is a futile effort by these punks. Don't they know that Kerry has given up on MO?

I was hesitant to put one in my yard because I'd heard that Kerry supporters go ballistic over the sight of Bush/Cheney signs. In fact, no one on my street had a political sign up until a couple of weeks ago. However, my neighbor put up a Kerry/Edwards sign, and it was the only sign on the street, and it sickened me to look at it.

I put up a Bush/Cheney sign, and the 4 houses to my right did the same. So, now there is a long row of Bush Cheney signs on our street, making it clear that our street is "Bush/Cheney Country" (we're in Tom Delay's district, after all, so there was little doubt).

Columbia is worse than your average college town. I am so thankful I am out of Boone County for good.

Vicki Riback-Wilson, Chuckie the Wheelie, Stacey Woeful over at KOMU and the rest of the Columbia Commies can have it.

Go, Steve!

A couple of kids stopped their car in front of my house, and one of them jumped out and started walking up on the lawn where my sign is. I've been watching for an hour or so in the evening, with the lights off.

I picked up my Louisville Slugger and went out the side door, then walked around quietly. As I came around the corner the kid was just starting to pull up the sign.

In my best and deepest voice, I said, "What the #$%@ do you think you're doing?" I started walking across the lawn quickly, bat up.

I never saw a teenager move that fast before. He jumped in the car and they drove off, coffee-can muffler buzzing away as loudly as it could.

Thing is...the stupid kid is the son of a guy I know, and I recognized him. I spoke to his dad the next day. Now, the kid has a job this Winter. He gets to shovel my sidewalk after every snow. Pay? What pay?

Dumbutt kid. By the end of Winter, I'll know him a lot better. I may even get a chance to teach him some sense.

Oh yeah...I wasn't going to hit him with that bat. It was just for effect. Worked right well.

When one of our neighbors put out a pro kerry sign, we change our little one to one of the six-foot Bush/Gohmert signs..

Good on ya! I live in Houston -- Culberson's district -- and have to descend into the depths of the Museum District/West U area every week to take my kid to an art class. Amid the blizzard of JfnK signs, I see a small scattering of Bush/Cheney signs, and I gotta tell ya, I admire these folks for their courage, because I know that they have been ostracized by their "tolerant" neighbors.

Speaking of dung, that's the "tolerant" liberals favorite thing to do to my sign...smear dog crap over it. All I do is hose it off. I guess it's better than being stolen, thanks to McCain/Finegold they cost $5 a pop now, Thanks John!

Recordings of ferocious dogs barking would be a help. Put the recorder on your porch out of sight....and stand back.

Embedding thumb tacks facing outward might be of help too!

My adopted home--and yes--it is an enclave of shallow fashionable leftism--(I don't call them liberals anymore since it has become undeniable that they don't believe in liberty--they're just walking oxymoron--bourgeouis socialists---does that make any real sence?) But--the majority of the populace are firmly for George.

I've been tempted to steal a Bush sign myself. They are hard to come by down here in SOLID BUSH COUNTRY.

Doesn't Texas allow homeowners to shoot trespassers? I expect there's a lot less of this sign-stealing there.
