You know what's cool? Last weekend I was visiting my friends in Lancaster County. They have close friends who are old order mennonites. (1 degree less separated than the Amish). My friend told me 50,000 old order mennonites have registered to vote for the first time in history. They are voting for Bush. My friends old order friend told him, when that Amish elders are going door to door in the area registering other Amish to vote. They are voting for Bush as well. I wonder if the same thing is happening in the old order and amish communities in Ohio. If so, it is good news for Bush. Keep the faith.

I grew up in Lancaster County. When you see the plain people voting, it is serious business. They are a very gentle people, do not proselytize, pretty much keep to themselves. To them, the family and community are paramount.
The don't have much time for government, unless they see a threat.

My next door neighbors were Mennonites. When the matriarch of the family died (90+), there were over 200 people at the funeral...all ages...everyone knew and respected her. She also made a heck of a pumpkin roll (made like a jelly roll only with the obvious and real butter-cream filling!).

This is what I have meant about the core of America not being able to support John Kerry, regardless of party affiliation.

Thanks for your post!
