That is exactly the question.
They know how many were posted and just how would they know that 60k or however many are "missing" until the "receive by" date (if such exists - I think most states have a "postmark by" date) comes along.
Or do they have some cosmic way of determining just how many of the absentee ballots requested and sent were actually delivered? This is snail mail, not e-mail after all, and the election committees don't get "receipts" for mail (ballots) delivered! In short, how can they know the ballots are missing before they are missing?
Smacks of a 'Rat "trap" sprung too early to me. I'd have figured they'd wait until election day, when most states actually count the absentee ballots, then claim the "missing votes" were from traditional Dem voting groups and would likely even claim that the traditional conservative military voters have had an epiphany and actually voted for Kerry (this group is comprised I've heard, of large numbers of personnel who have stated they would not "re-up" if Kerry were elected -- yeah, they're going to vote for him).
Again, I think it may well have been a well set "trap" that was prematurely sprung
You are rather obviously a troll, so I won't go to any great lengths to explain what you don't want to understand, except to say that Jeb Bush and the Repub legislature provided millions of bucks to Broward County to buy new (unnecessary) voting machines after '2000. Since voting procedures are the responsibility of the state legislatures (although that function was pre-empted by the FL Supremes in '2000), President Bush has nothing to do with this.
According to Florida law, each county is responsible for selecting the type of voting machines as well as procedures/organization, in accordance with state and federal law.
A Republican ran the Broward County elections for 20 years with no problems, using punch cards. She quit after the '2000 Dem recount fiasco, and was replaced by a corrupt Dem supervisor -- an African-American. How corrupt was she? Her own Dem party screamed loud and long for two years -- not because they were embarrassed by daily scandalous headlines in the local liberal rag, but because they wanted to pin the removal of a minority officeholder on Jeb Bush.
Sure enough, after Bush removed her, the same liberal rags who ran headlines about her malfeasance, ran charges by local black leaders that the removal was racially motivated.(She was replaced by another African-American, who by Dem PC rules, is now untouchable: I would trust the Post Office before I would trust her.)
The bottom line is that if you are a Republican, you can't win in Broward County -- and all of this election hoopla is part of the plan to conceal voter fraud and force a recount in a county politically owned and operated by the Democratic party.
and so it begins ...
---The Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office pointed a finger at the U.S. Postal Service on Tuesday for nearly 60,000 missing absentee ballots---
Suspicious...
I hate say it but that was my 1st instinct as well.
Too bad most of the Flori-duh elections comittees are run by the RATS...otherwise this problem would be fixed.
Check Union Hall...they and all other unaccounted for ballots should be there.
A very Freudian typo.
No disrespect but what the heck were you doing mailing an absentee ballot? Are you really out of the state, or was that just a convenience for you? Knowing what we know about the vote fraud out there, no one should EVER mail an absentee ballot unless he absolutely has no other option. Hand-deliver your ballot if at all possible.
To ALL Florida GOP:GO to the polls and vote for Bush. Take your friends with you to do the same. If you know any Zell Miller type Democrats that support Bush and they are voting for him, take them as well.
Vote EARLY to avoid the rush. If you wait until November 2nd, make SURE to go and vote!! And if you do wait until November 2nd, remember:
IGNORE ANYTHING IN THE MEDIA YOU HEAR (i.e., making a fast, early call in Florida for Kerry, etc.). THE FLORIDA ELECTION DEBACLE OF 2000 CAN AVOID A REPEAT THIS YEAR IF GOP TURNOUT IS STRONG, imho.
O.K. Mom ... sorry (hangs his head in shame> sniff
I'd imagine that the Postal Service supervisors have instructed their employees to give the highest priority to absentee ballots. The PO doesn't want to be blamed for any snafus, and no employees would endanger their jobs by hiding or misdirecting ballots.
Found it (my thread was pulled)...I guess I still need to get a handle on
the search function. Sorry for the double post.
This is an outrageous situation. Republicans are more likely to vote absentee, and it's especially important given the incidents in Broward of Democrats harassing Bush supporters at early voting sites.
??? That is akin to saying someone in Central Pennsylvania needs to go to Pittsburgh or Philadelphia to vote. Why would you take that stand when a student filed a proper request for an absentee ballot but didn't receive one?
It is. Come on up to a nice republican county (Brevard) and take your cruise out of Port Canaveral. Come a day early and take in the visitor's center at Kennedy Space Center.
"I guess these poor babies will have to go to the voting booths on November 2 and do it the old fashioned way. What a terrible inconvenience! Boo-freakin-hoo!" You're missing the point. What if someone intercepted these ballots and has already filled them out? These kids go to the polls on election day and are told they can't vote because they already voted -- or they do vote but their voted is cancelled out by whomever stole their ballot. If this were just incompetence I wouldn't be all that worried. It is the other explanation that scares me.
LOL! I used to vote absentee out of convenience all the time. This year, I have a baby due two days after the election, but I will be going to the polls instead.
Absentee ballots in Florida broke heavily Republican last time around. Big shock that so many are "missing" huh?
