Déjà vu as Democrats unleash Gore on Bush in Florida

Former presidential candidate Al Gore returned yesterday to South Florida, the scene of his 2000 defeat, to attack President Bush’s record and motivate key Democratic voting blocs to go to the polls early.

Gore, touring Broward and Palm Beach counties on behalf of the Kerry-Edwards campaign, mixed biblical references with attacks on Bush’s record during an early voting rally with black and retired Democrats in Riviera Beach. Floridians, using absentee ballots and new e-voting machines, began voting last week and will continue going to the polls every day through the Nov. 2 general election.

Gore also discussed the U.S. Supreme Court, saying Bush expects to appoint four justices during the next four years, and reiterated his “strong feelings” over the 2000 election.

The former vice president looked fatigued under a hot Florida sun, but said he was happy to be on his first campaign swing in Broward and Palm Beach since the contentious 2000 election.

“It feels great,” Gore, smiling, told the Boca News. “It feels great to be back in Palm Beach County.”

Gore stumped Sunday in Jacksonville and Tallahassee, but left Florida yesterday without meeting up with ex-running mate Bill Clinton. The former president stumped for Kerry at an early voting rally in Miami last night and will make a campaign stop at a Boca Raton synagogue today.

At yesterday’s rally in Riviera Beach, the crowd of approximately 200 Democrats at the Wells Recreation Center gave Gore a warm reception. Mayor Michael Brown and U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings introduced him as “the real president of the United States.”

I hope Gore stays in Florida - nothing like a maniac sore loser to boost Bush's chances.

Gore being in Florida has nothing to do with supporting Kerry's message. It is all about getting out the vote to counter the election that was "stolen" in 2000. From where I sit in California and the stories I have read so far about Florida (early voting, dual voting in states (i.e. Florida and NY), etc.), the RATs are primed to "steal" Florida back. God help us!

The words, rage, general demeanor ... and they compare GWB to Hitler. Textbook case of a demagogue. The base must be getting very shakey.
