With Anoka County emerging as one of the front lines in this battleground state, the Kerry-Edwards campaign on Monday deployed a general.
Retired Gen. Merrill "Tony" McPeak, former chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force, spoke at a Ham Lake VFW hall about his deep unhappiness with the Bush administration's handling of world affairs. McPeak supported George W. Bush four years ago, but no more.
"We have many more enemies than we had four years ago, and many fewer friends," McPeak told about 225 Democrats gathered. He later added, "We need to get someone there (in the White House) who can begin to repair the damage that has been done."

"He's dead!" an audience member shouted out.
"I know he's dead," McPeak replied, as the crowd laughed.
Why is it when they turn Democratic, they try and involve the dead in the voting process?
Someone ought to clue in Elizabeth Edwards to the status of her 'weapons' story. SORRY, LIZZY....DEBUNKED ALREADY!
General McDork.
McPeak is a fool and a Clinton lackey. He hopes to be appointed to some high position if sKerry gets elected. He was an embarassment when he was active duty, and is continuing the tradition. I know, since I served under him.
What a classless jerk.
There, fixed his priorities.
Let me guess, he was elevated to Chief of Staff by Clinton.
"Anybody But Bush!"
How about Adolph Hitler?
How about Jimmy Carter?
How about George Clooney?
How about Rodney King?
I guess that some options just don't work in this ANYBODY equation.
With all due respect, Tony McPeak was an idiot. I served under him in the Air Force and he was widely regarded as clueless. One small but irksome example was when he attempted to take all signs of the military out of the USAF "dress blues" uniforms. We weren't even allowed to have the "U.S." insignia on the lapels of our jackets. We were wearing frikkin' blazers, for crying out loud. I knew one lieutenant who was mistaken for a stewardess at the airport.
When McPeak, the first thing that happened was the military insignia reappeared. That was a happy day.
But don't get me started on this buffoon.
Oops. Should read "When McPeak retired, ..."
Just ask any career NCOs and officers from when this guy was Chief of Staff. For us it was anybody but McPeak! He was a loser that did more to hurt the US Air Force than anybody else in history. And he had nothing to do with Desert Storm as claimed in the Kerry ads.
I served with McPeak, too, and he was the WORST of the worst. Remember QAF, aircrew-style name patches, bus driver uniform changes, elimination of regulations, year of training, etc?
One of the biggest jerks I ever had the misfortune to run into in the Air Force. While taking "the book" (morning intelligence book) around to 5 or 6 Generals at Langley AFB, I found that he was the only one that didn't speak, didn't offer a seat, didn't offer a cup of coffee, didn't offer a thank-you. How he made it to General without a visible personality is mind-boggling. Unfortunately, his sponsor the 4-star General made a habit out of promoting former Thunderbird pilots.
Once again, anyone who was in the AF while McDickhead was CS knows what a complete POS he is. A lot of the non-military public has to realize that these days (and especially under clinton) a fair number of incompetents rose in the ranks not because they were leaders but because of the old axiom "its who you know and who you blow". Just because he's a general doesn't mean he's not a moron.
Yes, I remember his focus on trivia instead of solving major morale problems caused by the POS C-in-C we were serving uder (Clintoon). What a loser. Evidence that the cream does not always rise to the top, and turds sometimes float.
The jerk meant to say ....KARL.....
I know you are not kiddding, took off the US???? Damn never heard of that.
Yup.
