Vandals strike at GOP office
Santa Cruz Sentinal ^ | 10/26/04 | JONDI GUMZ and CATHY REDFERN

Posted on 10/26/2004 8:56:01 AM PDT by m1-lightning

By JONDI GUMZ and CATHY REDFERN Sentinel staff writers Scotts Valley police say they have no suspects in a case of campaign vandalism at the county’s Republican headquarters.

A chunk of concrete was tossed through the glass door at 5610 Scotts Valley Drive, knocking down a life-size cardboard poster of President Bush, some time after volunteers locked up at 8 p.m. Friday.

When workers returned at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, they found the door frame broken and two windows smashed.

"Emotionally it’s a blow," said Jane Armstrong of the Santa Cruz County Republican Central Committee. "I like to believe this is a free country. It’s disappointing to think people are intolerant."

The incident was the second in a week at the GOP office. Earlier in the week, a large sign was stolen from atop the building.

The Scotts Valley vandalism comes as the Bush campaign, citing incidents of violence at campaign offices around the country, is asserting Democratic partisans have deliberately tried to intimidate voters, potentially storing ammunition for future arguments about the fairness of the election.

On Monday, the Bush campaign provided a list of more than 40 examples it said had occurred since July, including the burglary from campaign offices of several items: two laptop computers in Seattle; a banner in Thousand Oaks; petty cash in Spokane, Wash.; as well as break-ins last Friday in Flagstaff, Ariz., and Cincinnati.

Also included were examples of lesser crimes including the defacement or theft of supporters’ lawn signs as well as broken windows, slashed tires, shots fired, bullet holes and thrown eggs at campaign offices.

The New York Times contributed to this report.

Do you get the sense that we're gonna have to call out the National Guard for the next presidential election?

I'm sure that the Socialists will claim that this is nothing more than Reichstag Fires.

The MSM does not want to report any of this. Imagine if it was the other way around....

KRISTALLNACHT

On the night of November 9, 1938, violence against Jews broke out across the Reich. It appeared to be unplanned, set off by Germans' anger over the assassination of a German official in Paris at the hands of a Jewish teenager. In fact, German propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels and other Nazis carefully organized the pogroms. In two days, over 1,000 synagogues were burned, 7,000 Jewish businesses were trashed and looted, dozens of Jewish people were killed, and Jewish cemeteries, hospitals, schools, and homes were looted while police and fire brigades stood by. The pogroms became known as Kristallnacht, the "Night of Broken Glass," for the shattered glass from the store windows that littered the streets.

The morning after the pogroms 30,000 German Jewish men were arrested for the "crime" of being Jewish and sent to concentration camps, where hundreds of them perished. Some Jewish women were also arrested and sent to local jails. Businesses owned by Jews were not allowed to reopen unless they were managed by non-Jews. Curfews were placed on Jews, limiting the hours of the day they could leave their homes.

After the "Night of Broken Glass,", life was even more difficult for German and Austrian Jewish children and teenagers. Already barred from entering museums, public playgrounds, and swimming pools, now they were expelled from the public schools. Jewish youngsters, like their parents, were totally segregated in Germany. In despair, many Jewish adults committed suicide. Most families tried desperately to leave.

Welcome to the new DNC.

The Dems have been fueling this anger within their voting base with baseless accusations and lies about "cutting funding", "loss of civil rights", "voter intimidation" etc. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised that if Bush is re-elected that there will be riots the size of those we see after football games all over the country. And of course it will be "Bush's fault" if someone gets hurt in the process.

I wonder if local law enforcement agencies are mapping out special plans these days. Such civil disobedience during a time of war would be a bonanza for terrorists....foreign and domestic.

That usually means the Santa Cruz reporters added their own local story details to a national story. They give credit to NY since it wasn't all (or even mostly sometimes) original.

vandalism at the county’s Republican headquarters

I'm not surprised... I've been in and out of Santa Cruz the last couple of weeks and didn't see a single Bush/Cheney sign, but I did see many Kerry/Edwards signs. There's a lot of good folks in Santa Cruz, they're just the minority.

It’s disappointing to think people are intolerant."

It's okay to be intolerant if you're a liberal. <\sarcasm>
