'Jeopardy!' Champ Tops $2M, But His Run May Be Ending
wftv ^ | October 25, 2004

"Jeopardy!" champ Ken Jennings is now the $2 million man.

The game show's all-time winner increased his total to more than $2,006,000 on Monday's show.

It was his 59th straight winning Jeopardy appearance. Jennings also has the longest winning streak in game show history.

The Utah software engineer could be on Jeopardy a while longer.

The trade publication TV Week reported last month that Jennings lost in an episode that has already been taped, but hasn't been aired yet. His reported total for 75 shows: $2.5 million

The contestant has been home counting his final winnings for quite a while.

I think he ( Jennings the software engineer ) has hacked the Jeopardy computers and has the Q and A before each show.

OK, I'll take off my tinfoil hat now. LOL!

He is also Mormon, so the church gets 10% off the top.

What doesn't this guy know?! I cannot imagine him losing. Maybe he just decides to call it quits after 75 games? He must miss his own bed and home-cooked meals? :^)

I've noticed his one Achilles Heel - football. He has flubbed rather easy questions on football positions and history.

Quiz Show is one of my favorite flicks. And yes, I have considered we may be seeing that now.

I doubt this kind of run could happen to a more deserving guy. He's smart, has prepared well, and seems to generally be a nice guy with a gracious attitude.

I think his success on the show has as much to do with timing as it does with smarts -- he seems to be tuned into the cadence of when to ring in (too soon, and you're locked out for half a second, too late and someone else gets in first).

With the exception of certain categories here and there, I'm getting the answers right at home pretty close to the same rate that Jennings does on the show. But there's a big difference from the comfort of the couch and the studio set under real pressure, not to mention two other very smart people trying to beat you to the answer.

I read on a similar thread, some FReepers had been on or auditioned for Jeopardy. They said that timing is everything on the show. You can't ring in too early or too late.

Jennings did get into a groove, but amazingly, he knows what he doesn't know - ie. he abstained from dialing-in when he didn't know the answer.

Maybe he just decides to call it quits after 75 games?

That's what I thought as well. His wife probably said, "Two mil is enough, even after the church tithe."

He'll agree, and probably throw an easy question. I can see it now:

Category: Famous Mormon Church Leaders

Question: "This person led the Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley."

Answer: "Aw heck, Alex. Who is Michael Moore?"
