Allies Find Signs of Iraq's Chemical Preparedness [but UN found "NOTHING" at Al Qa Qaa in April 2003

As the military advances closer to Baghdad, signs of Iraqi chemical preparedness are multiplying, although there is still no conclusive evidence Saddam Hussein's regime possesses weapons of mass destruction.

On Friday, troops at a training facility in the western Iraqi desert came across a bottle labeled "tabun" -- a nerve gas and chemical weapon Iraq is banned from possessing.

Closer to Baghdad, troops at Iraq's largest military industrial complex found nerve agent antidotes, documents describing chemical warfare and a white powder that appeared to be used for explosives.

U.N. weapons inspectors went repeatedly to the vast al Qa Qaa complex -- most recently on March 8 -- but found nothing during spot visits to some of the 1,100 buildings at the site 25 miles south of Baghdad.

I heard Rush talking about this and he said this story may shoot down the NYT regurgitation of an older story made out to be new.

And now the NYT, Kerry and others are claiming that 380 of explosive material is now missing????

I'm telling you ... that NYT article smells

I believe in this case, the "nothing" refers to WMD, not the conventional explosives that the MSM is buzzing about today...

Not seeing the angle on this: Did the U.N. not know the weapons existed in this amount until the Iraqis told us? (i.e., they found nothing, but didn't know anything was missing)? Or is this about a story that was passed over before and drummed up by the Slimes a week before the election?

The Bush administration sure seems unconcerned about the missing explosives story. As a fisherman I have to say it sure looks like the President is letting this fish run with the bait for awhile.

Of course it smells. The reason it smells is because the NYT is trying to put legs back on a story that ran on the wires long before we had boots on the ground in Iraq.

It's similar in nature to the Abu Ghraib "bombshell". The story was out there, I even watched the CENTCOM briefing on FOX NEws, the media just didn't report it widespread at the time until a later date where it could do more damage to the Bush admin.

My guess is the latter, I've been scanning the Dulfer report, the March 6th UN report and the British WMD report.....I'm finding verrrrrrrrrrry few references to Al qa qaa.

I am "conflicted." These reports may do some good, but, let's face it, every hospital in the U.S. stocks atropine, many stock PAM. I am sure the military has these agents widely distributed also. Their presence certainly doesn't prove intent to use nerve gas, as the article states.

It seems to me that the Administration has allowed the focus to be diffused from a clear message that the CIA and MI5(?) told everyone there were WMD's present. Acting on that information was not wrong--in fact, it might have been negligent not to.

But, although it is FNC, the more stories come out like this of "possible", etc., the more it appears like grasping. They should stay away from that until unequivocal evidence is found. Focus on the issue: the Administration acted on the best, most reliable information available. Like everyone else (100%), including previous administrations, they believed it and took what they considered appropriate action. Period.

As they did with CBS.

The NYT has no idea when the explosives were removed, or even when they were last seen.

Yes, but that was "nothing" at "some" of the buildings.

BINGO!!! This has been reported on Rush and Tony Snow as a regurgitation of old news--the weapons were missing, according to Snow, since 1998!

So, by the logic of the brouhaha over this story, these guys should be claiming WMD as a reality and that they had disappeared into the hands of terrorists.
