I received an email this morning asking me to salute a Marine presently serving in Iraq. I am proud and honored to get the chance to do so.
Todd,
Thank you for the sacrifices you are making to protect my family. I have a 3 year old granddaughter and it is people like you, and your fellow Marines that stand between her and a much darker world then I grew up in.
I am a student of history and firmly believe that what your accomplishments will be remembered very kindly in history. You have freed an entire country from tyranny and given them a taste of freedom. Along with freedom these people are experiencing something else they have never had, and thats hope for a better future. That hope is something the Iraqi people will fight to keep now that it has planted itself among them.
I believe we take our freedom for granted much of the time, that we lose perspective on how valuable it is and how much most of us would lose if it were taken away from us. That lack of perspective causes some of us to believe that being allowed just to exist at the cost freedom is a fair trade. We have sat in our safe homes and watched while millions have suffered, been tortured and died under regimes such as Saddams, and we have done nothing. Well that has changed with this war. Removing Saddam from power was not only the strategically right thing to do, it was the morally right thing to do. You have given the Iraqi people the same hope of a better future that we enjoy and for that you should be proud. I know Im proud of all of you.
Again thanks to you and all of our brave Soldiers. Semper Fi Marines!

Nicely done!
