Once again, we GOP activists from sunny Venice, Florida were out in force to show our colors and spread the good word for our candidates for this election season! This time it was at the Venice Sun Fiesta parade, an annual celebration of sun & fun that starts off with a big parade down the main street of town, and then goes on through the weekend with rides, food, entertainment, vendor booths of various types, and thousands of folks partaking of the festivities.
The Republican Club of South Sarasota County organized our entry in this years parade, consisting of a float, several convertible cars, and approximately a hundred and fifty good people all waving signs, shouting Four More Years, handing out buttons and bumper stickers, and in general spreading the positive message that is uniquely ours. There was a Kerry contingent in the parade as well, ahead of us, which, from what I've been told, consisted of a few cars with about a dozen people walking. One person who reconned them reported that they spent most of their time bad-mouthing George Bush, which follows the commonly-seen pattern of negativism we've come to expect from the political left. Hey, they don't have any ideas of their own, so they just try to attack the folks who do. Pathetic, eh?
Well, when we came along, the parade-watcher's responses were very, very enthusiastic. I think they were glad to see us. Of course, there were some sout-pussed Kerryites in the crowd, but they were a distinct minority. I had my trusty bullhorn with me, which was mostly intended to keep our group together, but when I tried out a few of my cheers, such as "KEEP AMERICA FREE! KEEP AMERICA STRONG! VOTE REPUBLICAN IN 2004!", the crowd's reaction made it clear that we were giving the good people in attendance exactly what they wanted. I also used it to diss some of the more vocal Kerryites, much to their chagrin and dismay.
Bottom line: If the reaction of the people who watched the parade is any indication, we are looking to not just win, but WIN BIG on November 2! $:-)
And I also made a small MPEG movie of the parade action, which gives you a much better feel for how things went on the street. This file is about 1.7 MB in size:

So, without further ado, heres we go!
8:30 AM, and folks are starting to gather at our designated section of Granada Street, where the parade was being staged before it's 10 AM kickoff.
My wife and two kids, ready for some parade action!
Republican gals ready to go!
Kerryites driving by to their place in the parade ahead of ours. They tried tossing a few lame barbs. They didn't work.
The two main organizers of the parade; names withheld to protect the guilty. $;-) These guys worked long and hard to make this event the raging success it was.
Even little dogs love GW!
As far as I understand it, this fellow just showed up and volunteered for service. We fixed him up and his classic car made a great addition!
My boy has a thing for pretty girls. More importantly, they seem to have a thing for him. $:-)
Off we go. This group is about half of the contingent we had in the parade. The vehicles are up ahead.
Our float. Look at all those American flags! $:-)
The parade goes down the town's main street, Venice Ave. You are looking East; the Gulf of Mexico is behind us.
GOP power in full effect!
Another view down the main street. The parade continued down to Nokomis Ave., turned right, and then went about another ten minutes until we hit the end.
That's all, folks. Time to disembark. WE DID GOOD!
After the parade, several folks hustled down to Centennial park to assist in manning the two booths we had set up to give away yard signs, buttons, bumper stickers, etc.
Another view of our two booths. This booth will be in operation for the entire weekend.
So, yet another mission accomplished! Keep up the momentum! Election day is almost upon us!

Great job Florida. The pictures of the flags, signs and the float warmed my heart. Indeed, the pictures with the backdrop of a clear and sunny day made me want to leave rainy California and come and join you.
