ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tens of thousands of Florida voters may be illegally registered to vote in two states, and more than 1,600 may have cast ballots in Florida and one of two other states in recent elections, a newspaper reported Friday.
Elections officials said they have few ways to prevent someone from registering in two states at once, and a lack of safeguards makes it easy for people to vote illegally, the Orlando Sentinel reported in a story for Friday's editions.
The Sentinel examination of voting records from Florida, Georgia and North Carolina found more than 68,000 cases in which voters with the same names and dates of birth were registered in two states. In 1,650 cases, records indicate those voters cast ballots in Florida and another state in the 2000 or 2002 elections.
But it is difficult to make conclusions from the voting records. The three states' voting-history databases do not include identifying information, such as a Social Security number, that would make it possible to weed out different voters with the same names and dates of birth, the paper reported.
Jenny Nash, a spokeswoman for Florida Secretary of State Glenda Hood, said state election officials have no idea how many Florida voters are registered to vote in a second state, let alone casting two ballots.
But the potential for thousands of illegal votes raise alarms in a state that decided the last presidential election by just 537 votes for George W. Bush.
It is a felony for voters to cast ballots in two states in the same election. But election officials seldom check whether voters are registered in another state. There is no nationwide voting database, and only 15 states maintain a statewide voting register.
This kind of fraud and all the other fraud all over the country is why I'm gratified that we may have our way with the computers!

They should hold in suspension any votes that fall into this category and confront the individuals in both states. If they are found to have voted twice they need to go to jail immediately.

The news media seems to be telling double-voters to go ahead because they will not be caught. I don't think it would be that difficult to determine whether people have voted twice by using the voter rolls. Everywhere I have lived I was on the voter rolls as a person with my name living at a certain address... Now how likely is it that two people with the same name and birth date and live at the same address? And, it isn't too late to prosecute those who voted twice in 2000 - some states are doing it and the penalty is tough for those convicted.
I always try to vote in all 50 states and will continue to do so after I die.
Yes, you are so right. But my point of posting this article is to try to show how absurd our voting system is, and I believe that it is purposefully absurd and out of any control.
I think the whole thing is prearranged, and that G.W. is to win ....... thank God.
If the computers were not going to control the vote count, to me, there would be a much greater impetus and effort to make the vote HONEST. It would be so SIMPLE to do so. And with all the massive Democrat voter fraud that is going on all over the country, especially in the big cities (AND EVERYONE KNOWS IT IS HAPPENING), The RNC would be screaming bloody murder if we didn't already have things under control, IMO.
Paper Ballots....... everyone gets a receipt like you do at Wal-Mart. And EVERYONE would be made to show physical identification. This would make an honest election ..... like Israel. But this is not done. The system ENCOURAGES FRAUD! Therefor the system is corrupt on purpose.

Who is prosecuting?
Florida is a mess, not just voter fraud, but voter intimidation of Republicans at the polls has been reported as wide spread,(see article on Kerry Spot).
It is a felony crime to be registered in two states. It is a felony crime to use the internet to aid and abet the commission of crimes.
Team Kerry had an Internet campaign dubbed "Operation Snowbird" that encouraged New Yorkers (and maybe Mainers)who reside part of the year in Florida to register there as well.
I again suggest we change EC to one vote per county. Then the control is truly local.
Yep! The fact that nothing is done about things like that cements my feelings that the election is pre-arranged (see post #8).
Dual state registereds might also be committing crimes by evading the IRS if they failed to file state tax returns.
The IRS would be interested in dual state residents not filing state tax returns.
If a person is registered to vote in a state, that means that they are a resident of that state and as such, need to pay the state taxes of a resident, as necessitated by law.
Voting after one is dead is no problem. Voting for the candidate of one's choice after death is really hard to do.
So someone who moves and neglects to cancel the old registration is a felon, even if they never again vote in the former state?

Re: Lawyers making false charges.
The Democratic National Committee has instructed their lawyers to charge voter intimidation, even where none exists. This directive, if carried out, violates the American Bar Association's Rules of Professional Legal Conduct in almost every single state.
The penalty is a disciplinary proceeding and potential disbarment. Lawyers may be zealous partisans, but no lawyer wants to risk losing his or her law license -- for almost any cause.
The ABA should issue a directive regarding the penalties involved for lawyers using their professional status to make unsubstantiated charges.
