Kerry makes seventh trip to Minnesota - this time to Metrodome
ASHLEY H. GRANT
Associated Press
MINNEAPOLIS - Clinging to a narrow lead in a state once considered a slam dunk for Democrats, John Kerry was to return to Minnesota Thursday evening for his seventh visit this election season.
Of the Iowa-Wisconsin-Minnesota triangle President Bush and Kerry have been courting this year, Minnesota has been Kerry's strongest state, according to recent polls.
But anything can happen in the final two weeks of an election and Republicans are trying to erode support for the Democrat trying to oust Bush.
Republican critic Deb Repya said Kerry was too indecisive to be president. Her husband, Lt. Col. Joe Repya, 58, was co-chairman of Minnesota Veterans for Bush-Cheney before he returned to active duty and Iraq, where he first fought in Desert Storm.
She focused on Kerry's 2003 vote for - and a final vote against - $87 billion for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. "It's just irresponsible for someone to waver like this," she said.
Republican Rep. John Kline of Minnesota's 2nd District, a former high-ranking Marine himself, said Kerry has a long record of voting against defense spending.
While Kerry makes strong speeches around the country, it's more important to look at his record, Kline said.
"It's not about what you say - it's about what you do," Kline said.
Of course, not everyone believes Kerry has fallen short on his support of the military. Former Sen. Max Cleland, a veteran who lost three limbs in Vietnam, is co-chairman of the national Kerry-Edwards campaign. He took part in a rally with Minnesota veterans and supporters Thursday in St. Cloud before heading to Minneapolis for Kerry's own event.
In recent months, Kerry has focused on smaller, more intimate events in Minnesota. This will be the first rally since July 2.
Like Bush's visit to Rochester Wednesday, Kerry's Minneapolis stop is an attempt to fire up his base. In 2000, more Democrats voted in Hennepin County than any other county in the state, giving Al Gore a 307,599-to-225,657 victory over Bush.
Statewide, Gore beat Bush by a narrow 2.5 percent and since then, the state has elected a Republican governor and U.S. senator.
A Star Tribune of Minneapolis poll last week had the Massachusetts senator leading Bush 48 percent to 43 percent in Minnesota, with independent Ralph Nader the choice of 2 percent. Kerry's 45 percent to 43 percent lead in Minnesota in a recent Chicago Tribune poll was within the margin of sampling error.

Isn't it the Metrosexual dome?
He'll probably call it the Metrosexual Dome like he called the Packers home Lambert Field.
KERRY: "It's good to be here at the home of the Michigan Metros!"
Kerry's not actually going to be IN the Metrodome. He's appearing at a lot nearby. The media... sigh.
We got enough Clueless Liberals in this State already without Dork boy and his merry band of tail sniffers coming here.
So,That's the spin phrase for not being able to get people to voluntarily show up at Demoncrap party events
kinda like when Michael Moore was written about in the Pioneer Press playing to a "jam packed crowd" when only
half the arena was filled.
more intimate setting=nobody showing up
Marty: "The last time Tap toured America, they were, uh, booked into 10,000 seat arenas, and 15,000 seat venues, and it seems that now, on the current tour they're being booked into 1,200 seat arenas, 1,500 seat arenas, and uh I was just wondering, does this mean uh... the popularity of the group is waning?"
Ian: "Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no... no, no, not at all. I, I, I just think that the... uh... their appeal is becoming more selective."

You forgot about the union which bus people from Kerry event to Kerry even. he'll have plenty of people there --- all the same people, that is!!!
Good I hear some of those domes run a little short of hot air occasionally. This one will get a much needed refill.
For the only state that Reagan couldn't win in '84, Kerry's having an awful hard time getting comfortable there.
We're seeing signs of erosion in the blogosphere, and from people like Maureen Dowd - a sniff of concession is in the air.
This will probably accelerate over the next several days until the polls start showing Bush 50%+ across the board (Not just WaPo)... Ironically, Bill Clinton's participation may be the nail in the coffin of the winner/loser court of public perception of Kerry.
Isn't that where the Wellstone Memorial was held?
Not a good use of time, unless his polls say things are either very good or very bad.
On another note Go Vikings
Sorry,couldn't help myself. ;-)
pbbbbbbt
Like The Titans are still in the hunt......
Wellstone Memorial was at Williams Arena (University of Minnesota Basketball Arena)
A lot of trades Union members vote against DEMs because of gun control, attacks on SUV's,ATV's,lead fishing sinker's,and all the other goofy crap that LIBS support.IMHO
Bump.
