Channel 6 report on cancellation of Stolen Honor
WPVI-TV Channel 6 | 10/19/04

Posted on 10/19/2004 8:07:51 PM PDT by Tribune7

WPVI-TV, ABC's Philly affiliate, just had a report concerning the cancellation of the showing of the film Stolen Honor in Abington.

The conservatives looked good. It was sympathetic. Dann Cuellar (newsman) was excellent.

---Nader effect?--

Black vote's going down the tubes. They need Clinton, the first black president, to pander for them.

At the last minute, Sinclair Broadcasting has reshuffled the broadcast schedule for their program on "Stolen Honor" and now call it "A POW Story: Politics, Pressure and the Media". The new schedule and content of the program is described in the Sinclair press release shown in the post below:

I'm seeing quite a few Bush signs too. Perhaps more interesting is that I think I'm seeing fewer Kerry signs than I saw Gore/Lieberman signs in 2000. I suspect the depth of support for Kerry isn't what they'd like to see.

Most folks around here are also pretty polite and good neighbors. I think there are a lot of Bush supporters who are keeping quiet to keep the peace with neighbors.

We're in Upper Dublin.

Sinclair should just show the entire film. This controversy is a ratings *gift*. I guarantee people will watch it just to see what the hubbub was.

I'm seeing more Kerry signs than I would like to see...and a lot of empty lawns. I'm used to seeing GOP signs *everywhere* so it's got me worried.

I think this will create more interest in the movie, so more people will see it.

More fallout over Sinclair decision
Film on Kerry's war service prompts investor protest

By Jon Friedman, CBS.MarketWatch.com Last Update: 6:11 PM ET Oct. 19, 2004

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shares of Sinclair Broadcasting Group fell further Tuesday and hit a 3 1/2-year low in the wake of a the television station owner's controversial decision to run a film critical of Sen. John Kerry's military service.

Sinclair shares have dropped about 15 percent since just over a week ago, when the company said its 62 television stations would show the documentary, "Stolen Hours," from Oct. 21-24.

The company's stations reach about 24 percent of the U.S. households that have television sets.

Sinclair's stock (SBGI: news, chart, profile) declined 29 cents to $6.17 by the close of trading.

Sinclair has come under pressure to provide equal time on its stations to allow the Kerry campaign to rebut the film's main charges.

Glickenhaus & Co., a Wall Street firm with clients who own about 6,100 shares of Sinclair stock, sent a protest letter to Sinclair Chief Executive David Smith and the company's board of directors.

Glickenhaus general partner Jim Glickenhaus, whose firm has about $1 billion in assets under management, said, "Let there be a rebuttal, so no one can accuse you of taking a position."

"Simply, as a fiduciary matter, we have to protect our shareholders," Glickenhaus said. "This has nothing to do with politics."

A call placed to the office of Sinclair's Smith seeking comment wasn't returned.

Some sponsors have already withdrawn their commercials on Sinclair stations in response to the decision.

"Management is not acting in the interest of shareholders," he said. "By showing something that's clearly propaganda, they are damaging the network."

Additionally, some public interest groups have expressed anger over Sinclair's decision and have vowed to oppose its stations when their broadcasting licenses come up for renewal.

"They could lose their licenses," Glickenhaus said. "They're going incur all sorts of challenges to their licenses."

F9/11 plays in every city in America without one incident of violence. This one little documentary is shown, and has to be cancelled for fear of retaliation. I WISH EVERY DEMOCRAT SEES THIS...The same people who yell and scream about the Patriot Act taking away your freedom are the same people who won't let you watch a damn movie. Outrageous. These are the people who want to run this country.

Sinclair shares rise (SBGI) By Jon Friedman

NEW YORK (CBS.MW) -- Shares of Sinclair Broadcasting Group (SBGI) surged 8 percent, or 51 cents, to $6.77 in Wednesday trading. The gain occurred after the media company announced that it wouldn't show an anti-Sen. John Kerry documentary in its entirety. Prior to Wednesday, Sinclair's stock had dropped about 15 percent in the wake of an announcement of its original plan to air the controversial film.
