I'll add a news story to this thread when it becomes available online.
Early news here (WPEC 12) has a reporter at a Publix interviewing seniors standing in line for flu shots. Some have been there since 2AM and the shots won't be given until 10AM.
They even have the traffic helicopter hovering over the Publix showing the traffic that looked like a Home Depot before a hurricane.
There are only 200 shots available at this Publix and these people are acting like they aren't getting the antidote to a deadly virus.
Guess who they are blaming!?! Every senior interviewed blames W.
I don't get this whole thing. I realize it's different if you are elderly or infirmed, but the only time I got a flu shot it did nothing but give me the flu.
A couple of questions for those that know:
1) By receiving these shots every year, isn't our populace making themselves more and more susceptible to the flu? Sort of like how some antibiotics are slowly becoming useless because of their overuse?
2) Is it this necessary to get a flu shot?
2) Why can't they give them a placebo? I swear 1/2 of this is in their heads.
Also, when W comes back to Florida, he'd better have something to tell these crazy people. They seem like selfish Lurch voters anyway, but he'd better spell it out CLEARLY how this is a result of another one of the failed Clintoon policies.
I don't normally post vanities, but this just seems extraordinary. Women crying because they won't get their shots, fights breaking out over places in line, old men in wheelchairs waiting in the rain.
Amazing stuff.
Is there an Article in the Constitution promising a vaccine? Maybe the old fogeys should be blaming TORT LAWYERS for driving doctors and med research companies into bankruptcy.
I guess there is a dark side to me because I find this hilarious. Is there some news about a new, particularly virulent strain of influenza predicted for this year, or is it just going to be a run of the mill I feel like heck for a few days type thing?
It depends on how your health is when you contract it. The flu kills a lot of people every year. Mostly the elderly and the young. I'd imagine that the people craving this shot know people who died.
I'm hoping that all these "W" blaming seniors who are most likely voting for Kerry will stay at home election day being too afraid of contracting the flu.
Each year's flu shot is based on the previous year, right? So there's no guarantee that a totally new strain of flu won't come along this year. This looks like a manufactured crisis - interesting timing.
Hello, everyone? The flu vaccine shortage is Exhibit A in the case against government-run healthcare. If you don't like rationing of flu shots, just wait till they start rationing bypasses and hip replacements.
It's the Medicare "entitlement" generation.
I deal with three elderly folks (relatives) and for some reason many people on Medicare feel more "entitled" than the most rabid "welfare Mom".

He could have noted that the only part of Hillary's health care plan that got enacted was the govt. takeover of the vaccine supply.
It was the perfect opportunity to point out what happens when you switch to socialized health care.
They may base the amount produces on the previous year, but not necessarily the strain/s they decide to vaccinate with. Don't ask me how they know which one/s to pick :) Sometimes they get it wrong. The first year I got the vaccine, I got the flu. Different strain. But the vaccine can still confer some protection, so it's still a good idea to get it when you can.
And these old farts will buy into it. Yeah, vote for no integrity Kerry because he's gonna give you more. Sorry, but a lot of old people are selfish.
At least they don't have to worry about accidently voting for Pat Buchanan again next month.
A lot of them are scared. There's no-one else to help out and families are scattered all over the place. And youngers don't want to help with the elders as much as they used to. They'd rather saddle their government with that responsibility. And their elders know it.

I think we in Palm Beach County need to start penning letters to the PB Post right now spelling out clearly who and what is to blame for this mess.
If they receive enough letters, they will have to print a few of them.
Had a flu shot once...
Got sicker then I've ever been in my life, from flu to full blown pneumonia..Never again.
Tell people that they can't have something, or that it's, precious and rare, and they'll line up around the block, two days ahead of time, with their sleeping bags and coolers in tow, to make sure they're one of the "fortunate few" ..
1. Price controls, implemented by Hillary! and the Democrats have caused the majority of US vaccine manufacturers to abandon the US market. Kerry proposes putting price controls on all prescription drugs.
2. Relying on foreign sources for US drugs is inherently risky. The Brits left us high and dry, with no notice this year. Kerry proposes reducing costs by relying on foreign suppliers for all prescription drugs.
3. The shortage of vaccines means that the government will have to implement rationing schemes, deciding who will and will not get care. Kerry proposes putting the government in charge of rationing all medical care and prescription drugs.
4. Trial lawyers, junk science and frivolous lawsuits have made it impossible to produce vaccines in the United States. Kerry's VEEP pick is the poster boy for trial lawyers, junk science and frivolous lawsuits. Kerry is fighting all efforts at tort reform.
The Democrats are very vulnerable on all these points. Unless the President makes these points forcefully, he will wind up bearing the burden by default. The President needs to make sure people know that this flu vaccine shortage is nothing but a Preview of Coming Attractions if John F. Kerry is elected President.
The effect of this will be that all seniors in FL will have the flu on election day, thus disenfranchising them or they will not be able to find the right selection on their ballot because they are in such a panic. In any case, this is certainly part of the VRC.
