ABC Nightline now in Vietnam trying to defend Kerry by interviewing Vietnamese. Also arguing with John O'Neill.

O'Neill stuck to his guns. It was a lively interview. Koppel was his usual smug self.
O'neil did a fantastic job of stopping the propaganda reterect of Koppel...Koppel would not let him talk about anything than one incident and O'Neil by far won this round. Even quoting from the swiftboat book and Kerrys own account in VN...Koppel tried to show a very slanted show and actually I felt uncomfortable watching O'Neil being sabotaged by Koppel...what a shame and God Bless the Swifties!! I was proud of O'Neil tonight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, I'm only 31 years old so I obviously didn't fight in the Vietnam War. But I was furious at the way Ted Koppel tried to catch John O'Neill in a "gotcha" and I can only imagine how Vets feel.
The one great thing that may come out of this is my sincere belief that Vietnam Veterans who were slandered 3 decades ago were once again riled by this arrogant, smug political hack and will hopefully help deprive John Kerry from the brass ring he's craved all his life.

Ted is a piece of work, guess he would rather take the word of Vietnam peasants then those of honorable men. O'Neil missed his chance when Ted asked why would a bunch of Vietnam peasants make up something about a guy they didn't know. Well heck Ted if they didn't know him, then how did you get the story, how did they know it was Kerry. Not to mention people have pride and the people there maybe wanted to embellish a great war story where they defended off the Americans. Let's see who to believe, Americans or Vietnamese I guess it was tough for Ted to choose since John K was on the American side of this issue. This is an attempt by ABC to make it appear as though they’ve covered the swift boat charges – but notice Ted warning John O’Neil “we are only going to talk about the Silver Star controversy” – that’s only a small part of what the swifties claim makes Kerry UNFIT!

ABC went all the way to communist Vietnam to help Kerry but Koppel considered it a joke when O'Neil suggested they talk to a group of 250 U.S. combat veterans and former POWs who were tortured by the communists.
Koppel seemed to be trying to build a case that there were 20 or so VC shooting back, but they couldn't even hit the boats. I was never there, but everything I learned was that if swift boats came in with guns blazing, the last thing they would do is stick around and fight back. They would be too busy disappearing as fast as possible.
I'm going to write to Ted and tell him that I can't believe a word of his report because of the fact that his boss Mark Halperin sent him and all of the other ABC reporters a memo which basically said, "make Kerry look good and make Bush look bad." Ted has no credibility and he never will as long as he works for a guy who has no integrity and who is making every effort to influence the election in favor of Kerry. Of course, truth be told, Ted never had credibility to begin with.
If you want to understand how ABC can ignore America's own war heroes and create heroes of our communist enemies, just read 1984.

In Koppel's closing comment, he said something to the effect of the Vietnamese confirming what was said in the award citation and after-action report, and I was waiting for what he DID NOT say: that they DISAGREE with what sKerry himself said, in boston globe book and in Tour of Doody. Of course, that would actually be reporting EVERYTHING, in an accurate manner, which he claims is what they're doing, but not. This just goes to show the bias in the reporting by Koppel/ABC.
He then goes on, after the whole spiel of using former VC's to confirm the AA report and citation, that they HAD to report whatever they found, and to do so would be wrong. Fair enough Ted, and it would've been fine if you yourself mentioned also what you found disagreed with what sKerry's people have said about the incident, which you didn't. When O'neil brought that up, and pointed NOT at Unfit for Command, but books that sKerry's people wrote, all Ted could do was ask, "why would these people lie", for crying out loud Ted, you're not THAT stupid and gullible?! Well, maybe you are...
Kerry's crew got 2 Bronze Stars and 3 Navy Commendation Medals for this same action! This is his band of brothers!

Koppel only showed a few Vietnamese who were scared whittless and hiding in the bushes 30 years ago, and he didn't even go by Kerry's own words in his book!!!!!

Koppel wasn't even satisfied with Kerry's own account via Kranish, or via Doug Brinkley. If it came from Vietnamese villagers with Vietnamese government officials observing over their shoulder, then that must be the best evidence, in Koppel's judgement. Liberal snobs like Koppel are so far up Kerry's butt, I don't how they even breath.
I only saw a piece of it but it confirmed for me the kind of low life Koppel is. The first, last, and every question in between should be, why hasn't Kerry released all his records.

This kind of sinister journalism really bothers me because it's dangerous. When a recognized national journalist willingly wants to believe communist witnesses over American heros, then it's time to bring the MSM to their knees by every legal tactic available.
It's outrageous that Koppel would take sides with the Viet Cong and still have an audience left.
I hope someone caught more of the show than I did. I didn't realize it was on . I haven't watched Nightline since DAY 8 of the Iran hostage debacle!

Did Abc look into the background of the peasants in this story? Of course not. Do they know if they tortured and killed Americans? Of course not. Do they even know their real names? Of course not. There is no way to "vet" these people and yet they take their word over a group of American Citizens, Soldiers and heros! I think they do not realize how easy it is to see right through this kind of flimsy reporting.

John O'Neill shocked Teddy boy with his "reference library" and correctly pointed out that Teddy was giving credence to people who may have been coerced over Kerry's own words in Brinkley's autobiography of Kerry, the Boston Globe biography of Kerry, and the Swiftboat Vets stories from those who were there.

In addition, Ted didn't mention the machine gunner on Kerry's boat, who is deceased, in 1996 or 1997 told the whole story of shooting the VC kid first, then brave Kerry jumped off and basically shot in cold blood a wounded prisoner of war.
What is amazing is how we Freepers, who have taken the time to get the facts, know so much more than the vaunted Nightline, who tonight, was exposed for the shoddy reporting Democratic Kerry shills that they are.
And this was but one easily rebutted example of their bias and of their intentionally incomplete, unprofessional reporting.
