Crazy Horse strip club draws ire over name

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota (AP) - Descendants of the storied American Indian warrior Crazy Horse want an upscale Paris strip club to stop using his name, saying it's disrespectful to him and his offspring. The nightclub, Crazy Horse Paris, was established in 1951 and is well-known for adult entertainment similar to that featured at casinos in Las Vegas. It's located near the Champs-Elysees, the Seine River and the Pont de l'Alma bridge, where Lady Diana was killed.

Crazy Horse was an Oglala Sioux warrior known for fighting the U.S. military in the 1800s. One of his descendants and an executor of his estate, Harvey White Woman, has written club owners, asking that they change the name.

He said the request was prompted by an HBO cable television special that featured the club and its dancers wearing what looked to be feathered headdresses, a revered native symbol.

"I saw the name and I said, 'That's not right.' When you say the name Crazy Horse, you don't conjure up nightclubs. You conjure up the warrior," he said in a telephone interview from his home in Kyle on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.

White Woman said he decided to write the club before taking legal action, something Crazy Horse's descendants have done in the past.

I saw it and chose to ignore it.

I like humor, but that was too easy and not funny or necessary IMO.

Nothing personal, different find different thing funny.

Not taking it personal -- and no offense was meant (it is an old and mild joke).

Crazy Horse... One of the greatest, if not the Greatest warrior chiefs ever to ride the plains. Just ask Custer. Better yet Google the name. Very interesting man.

Some bigotries are pulled by the Moderators, and some are encouraged...

Hopefully I am reading you wrong, but if you are inferring that bigotry against American Indians is encouraged I would like to see some proof.

In fact any bigotry encouraged by the people running this site I would like to see some back up. I imagine they would too.

It may be someday the way those that want to rake in the dough are supporting Casinos in Urban areas.

That's the game plan and what happened down here (Florida) with the Seminoles. Built a humongous Hard Rock Casino on land that was never histioric reservation land.

A remote Indian tribe buys up land near an urban area, one near good highways and gets this converted into reservation land. It's an outrage. 99.9% of the time it's slick Democrat lawyers who grease the skids to get these bills through the state legislatures.... Once the IndCasino gets built they shovel cash to the campaign funds of Democrat hacks.

What a country!

Was it Glen Frye who had the song 80's "Get over it", or at least that was the chorus.

Don't you think it a bit ironic that the Sioux will pick a fight in France over the name of a bar but don't seem to have the stones to do anything about a big racist Hollywood production?

I could care less about the Hollywood productions - I am more concerned with the beliefs of real people. I suppose teh same thing could be said about the Sioux.

But, as I stated before, I think they are being stupid with regards to the Crazy Horse in Paris (I was there once years ago, and enjoyed it)...

from the article; "White Woman said, "If it's being used as an attachment to the native culture, then that's when we can get them."

In other words, this is just a shake down for money. They aren't offended at all. I suspect Chief Crazy Horse would be ashamed of his worm like descendants. I have Indian blood too, but thank God I don't have a loser name like 'White Woman'. That might be part of the reason he is such a worm.

"Well, they use feathered head-dresses, so do you think it's a horse they are referring to in the name, or the Indian?"

They use feathered headdresses in similar shows in Vegas that have nothing to do with Indians. Their only mistake was admitting the idea for the name came from native American culture on their web site.

The last time a horse threw me I yelled "Crazy, f******, d*** Horse, when I catch you I'll kick your Crazy a**.

Does that offend them?
