Republicans Hammer Kerry's Short List of Legislative Accomplishments

(CNSNews.com) - The question about what Sen. John F. Kerry has accomplished during his 19-year Senate career came up several times on Wednesday night.

"I've actually passed 56 individual bills that I've personally written. And in addition to that, they're not always under my name. There's amendments on certain bills," Kerry said in the third and final presidential debate.

But in a post-debate analysis on Fox News, Terry McAuliffe, chairman of the Democratic Party, was hard-pressed to name a single piece of major legislation bearing Kerry's name.

The Republican National Committee released a press release quoting various people on Kerry's short list of legislative accomplishments.

"Since joining the U.S. Senate in 1985, Kerry has been the lead sponsor on 316 bills, only 5 (1.6 percent) of which became law," the RNC quoted the Thomas Website as saying.

"Kerry claims to fight for causes, but little legislation bears his name," the RNC said. Many of the bills he did fight for were of "little consequence," the RNC quoted analysts as saying.

The Kerry-Edwards campaign issued a press release listing all 56 bills and resolutions of Kerry's that passed - beginning with a 1985 concurrent resolution "expressing solidarity with the Sakharov family in their efforts to exercise their rights of freedom of expression, of travel, and of communication."

"gigolo"?

oh you must mean "marrying up"?

Yeah he was very proud of his marrying up ability. What a huge grin came across his

Why didn't Bush drive home the mere 12% tax rate that this creep and his billionaire wife paid last year? These top 1% folks obviously worked very hard to evade their fair share...typical liberal hypocrits.

That's why Hanoi John smiles when he talks about taxing the rich. It's the decades old DIM plan of avoiding taxes and passing it down to the middle class, as usual.

One bill every four years. Kerry amazingly excels at something... doing nothing.

Maybe if he gave up running marathons, shooting deer, and watching baseball and football games he might have actually passed an extra bill.

A resolution is NOT a bill. Bush said Kerry had 5 bills passed and Kerry said the president is misleading the American people. Kerry said he had 56 bills passed. But the DNC supports this falsehood by showing useless resolutions as part of the 56??

Unbelievable. Talk about misleading the American people. Resolutions do not become law, and Bush was talking about bills that bacame laws that were sponsored by Kerry. Bills and resolutions are like apples and oranges.

Hard pressed? I watched Terry McAuliffe (the nastiest politician I've ever seen with the possible exception of Jim Carville, and certainly the most willing to lie... well maybe not, I forgot Al Sharpton, Carol Mosely Braun, Ted Kennedy...) squirmed like crazy as he was unable to name a single bill passed under Kerry's name. He attempted to list issues Kerry has worked on, but Hannity held his feet to the fire, demanding the name of ONE actual bill. McAuliffe couldn't come up with one.

This is an important point to keep bringing up. Kerry is not only extremely liberal, he is also incompetent and lacking in leadership. Just a windsurfer who likes to toss the football while in dress clothes.

A resolution is NOT a bill.

FOX's Carl Cameron, reporting post-debate, claimed the list of 56 included many that didn't pass the House or weren't signed by the President. He claimed 5 was the true number of Kerry authored items that achieved Presidential signature... and that 4 of those were resolutions. Thus, in 20 years Kerry produced only one bill!

Alas, I have to correct myself. I still think FOX reported "5" as a total of bills+ resolutions, but I found his list of 5 bills AND 4 resolutions here. They are all really impressive.
