This reminds me of some BS flyer that I received from handgun control nuts a couple of years ago. It actually said "handguns murdered x people in 19yy".
It's wrong and evil to deliberately mislead people this way.

You'd think by now people would know they have to put a leash on their SUV.

From the article:
The incident began when plainclothes tactical police officers walked out of a restaurant at Wilson and Clark, and the occupants of a 1998 silver Lexus SUV flashed gang signs at the officers. The vehicle was westbound on Wilson, and at least one officer, chasing after the vehicle on foot, was struck. The officer wasn't hurt, and he and the others ran to their patrol car and attempted to catch up to the SUV, but the vehicle had turned off of Wilson southbound on Greenview. When the SUV tried to turn again, this time onto Sunnyside, it lost control, striking the family, Leidy said. All the occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Over the course of the next hour, all were taken into custody.
So, let me get this straight... This pursuit happened because these kids flashed a "gang sign" at the officers? For this the officers had to hop in their cruiser and play car tag in the middle of Chigaco?
Am I missing something? Is it against the law to make certain gestures in Chicago? Are the Police permitted to use deadly force when they feel they have been insulted?
When the Police get into a car chase in an urban area, there is a good possibility that somebody is going to get killed. In other words, they better have a real good reason to think a crime is in progress. A bunch of kids in a Lexus giving them the finger just doesn't justify the response. And some 6-year-old kid wound up paying the price.

I do have compassion for the deceased. I hope justice is done.
But someone needs to have mercy on the rest of us and shoot the idiot who wrote this article.
Or, as Stephen King once wrote:
"When it comes to people, mercy killing is against the law. When it comes to writing, mercy killing is the law."

You people are all making jokes about this tragic situation, but the article underlines a serious problem our society is facing today. The problem is that people buy these big hulking heavy SUVs, thinking that this will impress or perhaps intimidate others, and then they don't obtain proper training for the SUV. They think they can treat an SUV like any other vehicle, but this is NOT TRUE! SUVs need structure. They need discipline. They need firm, loving guidance and lots of exercise. You cannot allow them to get away with small things right after you buy them even if their misbehavior seems cute and harmless, because then they lose respect for you as their leader. So many SUV owners do this, and then they're surprised when one day they lose control of the SUV and there is a tragedy.
People, this kind of disaster is NOT THE SUV'S FAULT! It's the fault of naive, ineffectual owners who don't care enough to discipline their SUVs!
There should be a federal government program in place to make sure that people do train their SUVs correctly. We should all be happy to pay higher taxes to bring a federal agency online to oversee all ownership, handling, and licensing of SUVs. John Kerry has a plan to do that. And that's why I support him and his girlfriend John Edwards.

I'm sorry. You know, this post was barbaric. I'm a mother and I should know better than to write humorously about something that is so terrible. Please accept my apologies.

Woah!
My comment just a sarcastic remark (just as everone else made here) about how silly the media has become when reporting about accidents involving SUV's.
No harm intended to anyone!

Maybe if its owners had paid more attention to it, the SUV wouldn't have gone bad in the first place.
Has a Breathalyzer or drug test been administered to the SUV yet?

I'm not trying to be a tight ass over this but millions of Americans are killed or injured in car accidents every year. It's very likely you come will come in contact with a person who has been touched by this everyday. I didn't think showing support for SUV's merritts poking fun at a childs death.
To: MarkeyD
That's ok...looks like you are the heir apparent for any SUV topics as "ambrose" has moved on to the topic of horses

I went to the site to see the rest of the article and a I got a pop-up ad with a seductive woman asking if I want to meet her.
I guess that's normal for suntimes readers?

Your new here. We aren't making fun of the child's death, we are making fun of the media bias against SUVs.
