Charger Fans In Custody For Allegedly Beating Sailor

Sailor Beaten Unconscious During Chargers Game
SAN DIEGO -- Three Charger fans are in custody after allegedly beating a 27-year-old sailor unconscious at Qualcomm Stadium as the San Diego Chargers took on the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday, 10News reported.

The fight broke out between opposing fans in the field-level seating during the fourth quarter. Apparently, some verbal exchanges between two groups of fans on the field level got out of hand. The ushers, who are not licensed to break up fights, called security about the pending problem, according to 10News.

In the meantime, the three men punched and stomped on the sailor.

San Diego police Assistant Chief George Saldamondo said, "One thing we noticed was we didn't see any fans trying to break up the fight. That was kind of unusual (because) people tend to try to stop other people from fighting."

The Navy man, removed from the stadium on a stretcher, went to a hospital with what police described as serious head wounds.

The men accused of beating the sailor were arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

Saldamondo said investigators are reviewing tapes of the incident.

"There's been incidents almost as bad, if not worse. We take each incident (seriously)," said Saldamondo.

was this guy in uniform? San Diego sports are some of the wackiest people out there. I really wonder if they knowingly stomped a Sailor or did they brawl with an opposing teams fans.

The Charger fans never get that boisterous when the Raiders are in town. They try to stop the Raider fans from buying tickets, because the Raider fans kick the Sh*t out of the charger fans.

Go Raiders!!
A Raider fan for 19 years and counting. (even when they lose, I hate bandwagon fans)

Calling some San Diego fans wacky is the understatement of all time.

Thugs, hoodlums, low life scum and a few other adjectives comes to mind.

I'm not much into sports but would guess that you're in for a good flaming from Green Bay fans.

That is a ridiculous blanket statement. As a long time San Diego resident and Charger fan, I can tell you that we are no more "wacky" than any other city of NFL fans.

In fact, most of the problems we've had have been when the Raider fans hit town every year.

Don't paint us with your broad brush. A few violent nut-jobs do not represent an entire fan base.

"...the Raider fans kick the Sh*t out of the charger fans."

Great claim to fame there. Wonderful insight into the mentality of the Raiders "fans".

It's a SPORT - period. How silly we must look when we act like British soccer hooligans.

Sad.

I go to that game every year, I'll be wearing my Rich Gannon jersey this year. The Raider fans outnumber the Charger fans at least 60/40. A scary thought: this year the game is on Halloween.

I've been a Raider fan since I was a kid and Daryl Lamonica was the quarterback.

Your team is coming to the Georgia dome to play my falcons this Sunday.

Gonna be a good old fashiond smash mouth football game.
