Superman actor Christopher Reeve has died, his publicist has said.
The 52-year-old fell into a coma on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his New York home.
Reeve had been paralysed from the neck down in a near-fatal horse-riding accident nine years ago.
The former actor spent most of his time since in a wheelchair and became an advocate for spinal cord research.
He starred in the original movie about the comic-book hero in 1978 and its sequels in 1980, 1983 and 1987.
His later films include Noises Off (1992) and Morning Glory (1994).
Despite his injury, Reeve acted again after his accident, in Village of the Damned (1995) and various television productions, including Rear Window (1998).
We just had a thread pulled because some people couldn't refrain from speaking ill of the dead. That sickens me.
Prayers for the family.
RIP Mr.Reeves
Unless he was resuscitated after his cardiac arrest the chain of events is reversed. Cardiac arrest=heart stopped=dead.
Let the record show that the overwhelming majority of posts were kind and caring.
Please don't spread gossip mischaracterizing the whole forum.
Very sorry to hear Christopher Reeves is dead. He was an inspiration.
May he rest in peace and be granted his wings so that he may truly fly higher than he ever did here on earth.
RIP. I may not have cared for the man himself, he certainly entertained me for many years! I loved DeathTrap & Somewhere in Time. I appreciate that. I pray for his family, Now, he will be whole again.
Fox reported that he fell into a coman after suffering a cardiac arrest; but remember, these are first reports, and not from the family.
Reeve did not film this role after his injury.
coman=coma
coman=coma
Janet Leigh, Gordon Cooper, Rodney Dangerfield, Christopher Reeve, Ken Caminiti - guess they don't always go in threes.
Rest in peace, Superman.
That's too bad. Prayers for the family. His wife is an admirable woman
I don't understand why anyone would speak ill of Christopher Reeves, he was an inspiration and will continue to be inspiring, even in death.
Best wishes to the Reeves.
