Posted on 10/09/2004 5:38:12 PM PDT by s2baccha

WTMJ-TV Milwaukee is reporting that the FBI says two electrical poles at Mitchell International in Milwaukee have been tampered with and is the cause for massive power outages in Milwaukee. Most of southern Milwaukee county is in the dark in cluding the airport. Nothing yet on Touchtmj4.com website.

WISN-12 did a breaking news spot on this but no mention about tampering with poles....interesting....shots of stranded tourests at ticket counters.

Air Traffic Control IS on backup generators so they are INDEED functioning and inbound traffic is being allowed to land. No outbound traffic is being allowed out at the present time.

Georgia Tech used to have power problems during exams.

I won't detail the technique but it does involve a sound not usually found in nature.

Isn't Milwaukee a mostly liberal town...

If so, then surely this isn't the first time that most people there were in the dark..

Why is the FBI inspecting poles and not the power company?

These were no just 'poles', these were some substantial sized towers. Both have been crumpled to the ground.

I was out of power for only about 40 minutes. I am 5 miles from the airport.

It was in passing, but I believe the poles came down, and after inspecting found tampering. Since it was at the airport, maybe the FBI gets invovled? TMJ is now reporting power is back on.

Our church is located about 1 mile south of the airport.
Our power went off at 5:10. Held the 5:30 service in the fellowship hall, where there was enough light for everyone to gather.

The unions in Milwaukee have a lot of power, but there are Republican elements in the religious and business communities. I worked in a downtown Milwaukee office during the 2000 elections and most people there were pro-Bush--someone even hung a FR "Sore-Loserman" sign up on their cubicle.

I don't have a radio handy, but TMJ4 TV just broke in with a Breaking News segment showing the towers. The airport is back in operation.

They are doing a lot of work in that area on extending I794 to the south. Someone leave some blasting material laying around?

Have they checked to see if Bruce Willis is combatting terrorists on the tarmac?

Actually, now that I think about it, the utility probably called the FBI after the linemen discovered the tampering. If its a major transmission line(s), then the FBI should be notified along with DOE and other utilities. At minimum, the DOE and local police should be contacted. There are guidelines.
