U.N. panel to frame guidelines on legality of pre-emptive strike

Members of an international panel studying United Nations' operations say the group hopes to lay down clear rules declaring when it is legal for a nation to use pre-emptive military force in its own defense. The issue grows out of the international controversy over the Bush administration's decision to invade Iraq without a final U.N. Security Council resolution explicitly authorizing the war, said panel member Gareth Evans, a former foreign minister of Australia. "I expect the panel to be giving close consideration to what those rules are and how they should be applied and whether an effort should be made to identify generally agreed criteria for the legitimate use of force, whatever the context," Mr. Evans said during a recent appearance at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington. He made his remarks before last week's presidential debate in which Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry's call for a "global test" on when pre-emptive action is justified became a campaign issue. U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan established the 16-member High-Level Panel on Threats, Challenges and Change in November to study ways to reform the 59-year-old organization so it can better address 21st-century threats to security and peace. But Mr. Evans, currently president of the International Crisis Group think tank, said much of the panel's work has focused on establishing detailed guidelines for the use of military force.

This should send a chill up your spine! Are they working in concert with Kerry who has previously stated: Im an internationalist,...Id like to see our troops dispersed through the world only at the directive of the United Nations. (in the 11 Feb 2004 issue of the Harvard Crimson) a pretty good definition of Global Test. The UN and Kerry's cronies are determined to subvert our sovereinty. THIS is dangerous. 200 years of freedom will go out the door. Our sovereignty is hanging by a thread... get the word out - letter to your editors...each letter gets read by thousands. Are we ready to give up our citizneship to become UN Sheeple?

Wait a minute. Kofi Annan declared our invasion of Iraq 'illegal.' If they're just getting around to defining when it's legit to invade, what did he base that declaration on?
Just a rhetorical question, since I know exactly what he pulled his legal opinion out of.

a final U.N. Security Council resolution explicitly authorizing the war,
Who cares......
I myself am not too much of a supporter of the preemptive strike philosophy, but I could care less what the U.N. has to say about it.
They themselves are terrorist central.
To: maine-iac7
Lemme guess, you may use pre-emptive strikes if the name of your country doesn't end with "Of America".

Our sovereignty is hanging by a thread
Unfortunately our sovereignty has departed. However, it is still close enough for us to regain it!
We must pull out of NAFTA, GATT, and soundly defeat FTAA.
We must replace treasonous Supreme Court judges who have publicly declared their intent to rule based on laws other than the U.S. Constitution.
To: maine-iac7
Look, we have senators and congressmen who will ratify treaties that will make this stuff into law.
If that doesn't work, the UN gets their junk snuck into free trade agreements, which get ratified by our congress.
If that doesn't work they go to local officials and get the UN law cut and pasted into state and local codes. Go to San Diego county. Their firefighters, and one reason we had such deadly blazes there last year, was because the CDF and San Diego county firefighters are operating under UN laws for firefighting, Urban Wilderness Interface or UWIC. UWIC was almost completely responsible for our government officias surrendering human lives and private property to those wildfires.

Kerry's definitionof "Global Test"
to go along with the above UN push to rule US (like in U.S.)
A More Radical John Kerry
The Crimson reported Kerry called for U.N. control of troops in 1970

WE are fighting for our freedom against the enemy within...every bit as dangerous as the in-your-face terrorists. If we loose this battle - if Kerry wins - and we can see all holds are off..the media is owned...
if we loose - if we don't get Bush in - we may as well fold it. The best bastion of freedom, America, will be in obeisance to the UN and the One World Government,
We are the foot soldiers (or the "finger soldiers"?)
Use our keyboards to get the word out. quote the UN guidelines, quote Kerry's def. give sources, let people look it up for themselves. Take the blinders off.

I would like to see some UN guidelines laid down to determine the legality of passing 16 resolutions against a murderous regime without any intent to enforce any of them, taking bribes from said regime for several years under sanctions that hurt no one but the people under said regime, sending advisors to "oversee" democratic elections in the one country that taught the rest of the world how democratic republics should function, and still having the cajones to extort operating monies from countries who represent the sole military arm of the UN, but are vilified for finally deciding to enforce your own resolutions.

How about a pre-emptive strike by the FBI and local law enforcement to seize all oil-for-bribes documents, computers, etc., and get any and all UN countries/officials to pay-up on outstanding parking tickets and such. Screw the U.N.!

As I recall, the UN Charter does not allow this. Pure power-grab by Kofi and his would-be international nanny state.

I understand that we simply can't leave it.
Why? We operated just fine before it's arrival. It certanally has not prevented wars, although it has prevented U.S. from WINNING any war since it's inception.
To: maine-iac7
Oh good - for a moment there, I was afraid that the UN had run out of useless things to do...

That is TRULY frightening! I wonder how prevailing the usurpation of our laws they have been able to install - without us having a clue!
Where are our watchdogs?
