NJ Assembly Approves Needle Exchanges, Bans ''Water Yo-Yos''

by KYW's Ed Kasuba The New Jersey Assembly has approved a measure banning the sale of yo-yo water balls in the state.

Yo-yo water balls are squishy toys on a bungee-cord string with a finger loop at the end. And, according to some experts, they pose a potential health hazard to children.

Assembyman David Mayer, a Camden County Democrat, says that because the Consumer Product Safety Commission has ignored the problem, it was time for New Jersey to act:

"This is actually a dangerous toy. This toy looks innocent and children play with it, but we’ve documented over 338 injuries nationwide by the use of this particular toy.”

The Assembly has also narrowly approved and sent to the Senate a bill allowing towns to establish needle exchange programs for intravenous drug users.

That's why my 3 year old is only allowed to play with clean hypodermic needles.

Clifton Ave. in Newark, same place where bobby brown and Whitney Houston get their "stuff".

Hey, isn't the state police now patrolling in Camden? What are they going to do when they find a perp with a needle, drive him to the local heroin supplier? or arrest him for concealing and carrying a water yo yo. You know, those things are dangerous.

In 1997 alone, nearly 60,000 children ages 5 to 14 were treated in hospital emergency rooms for in-line skating-related injuries, according to the National Safe Kids Campaign (NSKC). Among the same ages in the same year, more than 150,000 football injuries and 200,000 basketball injuries were treated, NSKC reported. That year, NKSC said, more than 125,000 baseball and softball injuries were treated in hospital emergency rooms nationwide. However, only 70 injuries in Little League Baseball and Softball activities, ages 5 to 18, were reported that year.

Time to ban bicycles.

ML/NJ

And BTW this is 338 injuries nationwide! NJ probably has about ten, and one wonders how many of these would have also occurred if the toy being used at the time were an ordinary yo-yo,

we’ve documented over 338 injuries nationwide >>

the liberals pull the same crap with gun accidents/deaths in children and with incest in the abortion issue, the numbers are next to nothing. As a matter of fact, they (violence policy center) used statistics of people aged 24 and under as "children" so those who are in the military and police departments were included in "child" accidents and fatalities.

Wonder if most happened to the same kid.>>

LOL, could very well be.

have to protect the kids ya know...>>>

you know what the liberals say, "women and children first"

what they don't tell you is that most children die in accidents while under the supervision of their mother. Usually in car accidents or in accidents in and around the house; or while they were supposed to have been under supervision by their mothers and were not. Just blame the guns and the yo yos.

And never discipline your child otherwise DYFS will come to your house with the police so they can put your children in the foster care system so they can kill them.
