Fleeing villagers mistook disco lights for aliens
A Romanian village was left deserted after its inhabitants fled in panic after mistaking disco lights in a nearby town for an alien invasion.
Villagers in Cristinesti, eastern Romania, thought they were under attack by aliens when they saw bright, multicoloured lights in the sky and started leaving the village en masse. But police who were called out to investigate discovered the lights were coming from an open air disco in the town of Herta near the Ukrainian border, the daily Adevarul reported. They persuaded the villagers to eventually return to their homes.
Costel Roman, one of the villagers, said: Everybody was out on the streets and wondering what to do if the aliens landed.
That happened to me when I was younger. Turned out to be just a cantina.

The villagers were apparently suffering from strobe-burn.

NOT my fault ping.
I have absolutely NOTHING to do with the villagers fleeing.
Honest.
However, I know someone did, considering the sadistic use of disco lights...

That's the first thing you think of when you see lights in the sky. Space aliens! Run!

Has no one pondered the possibility that they were just running to get away from DISCO? This seems most likely to me.

Instead of FReepers making fun of these poor people, should step up to the plate and help them. Show your compassion!
It would not take much on the part of any of us:
Just donate a roll of Reynold's Extra Strength foil, and $5 to cover inserting instructions on how to fold it into hats packaging, palletizing; and then air freighting it to them.

then they'd use it in the microwave, see sparks and lights
and end up running away again.
I'd get sued by John Edwards and Kerry would send in the UN
to monitor the lights and standby to do nothing if the aliens attack.

Oh, man..
I was in Galveston and got invited to a rave over on Bolivar
island.. there were disco lights and people fleeing.
I remember everything. I remember how it started.

Oops.
At least the music there was good, even if the people fled.
