President Leonid Kuchma has received a letter from Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Salih, in which he expressed gratitude for the contribution of Ukrainian troops to ensuring the peace and security of the Iraqi people.

The letter also contains a request for Ukraine to maintain the number of its peacekeepers at the current level.

[The National Security and Defence Council has supported a Defence Ministry proposal to gradually reduce the size of Ukraine's 1,600-strong peacekeeping contingent in Iraq - see Interfax-Ukraine news agency, Kiev, in Russian 1354 gmt 28 Sep 04.]

That is one country that we never hear the President mention when he lists coalition countries. He needs to give them more credit.

Cheney named them tonight in the debate.

There have been press releases too. The media never carries them.

I didn't get their names. I met them outside Kyiv's main train station in April or May and tried to buy them a beer. They were in a hurry, however.

I let them know in no uncertain terms that their work in Iraq was greatly appreciated by the US. One guy said that if it wasn't for Dyadya Sam, they wouldn't have even had boots, Kyiv sent them so unprepared.

I'll tell you, our Coalition Allies are missing a huge, huge opportunity to make tens of millions of friends in America. A year ago, I wrote the Polish Embassy that they should put together a $50,000 ad on their contribution to the Iraq War. And suggest Americans buy a Polish ham for Easter. Where's the online site to buy Ukrainian products? The Allies have made a commitment to President Bush and the US Government and are ignoring the American People. That's where the permanent friendship and benefits lie. Just ask the French tourist industry what happens when you piss Americans off.

Jabba, that is a great idea, we should do this sort of thing, perhaps it would make a good stand alone topic, with our resources I am sure we could come up with some great ways to do this. I'm in.

You can buy a pin here: http://www.ukrainebaseball.com/

That money goes to the baseball equipment for the little league.

"Dyakuehmo, mirotvorsty Ukrainy!"

Translation "Can you hear me now?"

Its possible that Iraq may have a free election before Ukraine - and return the favor of sending troops!
