Kerry Accuses GOP of Suppressing Voting

CLEVELAND - Republicans have been trying to suppress voting in states where the presidential race is too close to call, Democratic nominee John Kerry (news - web sites) said Sunday at one of the city's largest predominantly black churches.
"In battleground states across the country, we're hearing stories of how people are trying to make it harder to file for additional time, or how they're making it harder to even register," Kerry told an enthusiastic congregation at East Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
"We're not going to let that happen because the memories of 2000 are too strong. We're not going to allow 1 million African Americans to be disenfranchised."
At a stop in Ohio earlier Sunday, Kerry told a voter concerned about ballots cast by military personnel overseas that Democrats are aware of voting problems and are concerned.
"We're seeing efforts by the Republicans, unfortunately, in various parts of the country to suppress votes and intimidate people, to do things that bring back memories that are pretty bitter in the American mind from the year 2000."
With just a month left in the presidential campaign, Kerry said the campaign would take steps nationally to ensure voters access to the ballot box.
The Bush-Cheney campaign said the charges of voter suppression "have no basis in reality."
"Like so much of his campaign, John Kerry's false charges of voter intimidation are baseless," said spokesman Steve Schmidt. He said Democrats rejected a GOP offer to put a lawyer from each party in every voting district across the nation on Election Day.
Kerry said he has his own team of lawyers "of all color and all mix" examining possible voting problems to try to prevent a repeat of the 2000 election disputes. He also has said he has thousands of lawyers around the country prepared to monitor the polls on Nov. 2.
The Massachusetts senator has been fighting hard to win a number of closely divided states with enough Electoral College (news - web sites) votes at stake to swing the election, leading both campaigns to put legal teams in place ready to challenge voting irregularities.
To prevent Ohio from becoming this election's Florida, Democratic Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones (news, bio, voting record) gave the churchgoers some advice.
"When you go to the ballot box, if you make a mistake you can get another ballot," she said. She also urged voters with punch card ballots to hold them up for examination before turning them in.
"No hanging chads will mess with this election," she said.
They tell these outrageous lies and you can hardly hear the Republicans peeping, "no basis in reality." I'm sorry but that response is way too prissy.
How is this jerk allowed to talk politics in a church? Where are separation of church and state crowd - Hmmm?
now mr. kerry, please tell the congregation how many african americans you have on staff? and i dont mean your lily white wife!

Does anyone here have an email addy or a phone number for the Kerry campaign. I've had it.
Ive been thinking about this a lot lately. The democrats aren't lying to appease their constituents, they're lying to justify and incite misbehavior from their supporters. If the massive attempts at voter registration fraud are any indication, they're being quite successful.
My tactic for getting leftists to instantly STFU on this issue is to demand that they name names. Name ONE black who was disenfranchised! Name ONE Republican who did the disenfranchising! Name ONE court case that came to this determination!
When they can't respond, I call them baldfaced liars and traitors. You should see the looks of seething hatred on their faces!
My goal is to give at least one leftist an aneurysm before the election.
Amen!! What we need here is a Harry Truman or Andy Jackson. A politican who isn't afraid to loosen his tie take his jacket off and roll up his sleeves!
I agree. This is scurrilous and lying race-baiting, and the RNC should be merciless in denouncing this demagoguery.
Thanks.
Well, I went to my county's Republican breakfast Sat. AM at IHOP and got a yard sign and bumper stickers and we had two wonderful black men in attendance. One young guy said he had been away at college and when finished he would be buying a home in my county where his Dad lived. Great stuff considering Fayette is the most Republican county in GA. Afterwards I'm standing in the parking lot with my sign talking to a friend when this black guy comes walking by and says " He's gonna lose man" I just looked at him and said " Keep on dreaming brother." This guy was obviously from the next county North which has been taken over since I grew up there. Kool-Aid abounds around Atlanta. But there is hope.
Does this guy use a dart board for these numbers?
And if this audience is dumb enough to buy this BS, they don't deserve to vote.
How does this fool think he can govern, if by some weird circumstance he is elected, when he has insulted and demeaned fifty percent of the electorate? I suppose he will call for national unity and forgiveness like the old media does after their orgy and the election is over.
Many dems think they are entitled to vote twice and object that an effort to prevent double voting is an effort to "suppress" their vote.
Actually, I think the double voting is a little unfair. I also think the practice in Illinois of counting votes cast in these overwhelming dem precincts by surrogates for deceased voters is also unfair.
And then whine that everyone hates him.... or else put us all in re-education camps.
When is the Bush camp going to call him on this?
This is the excuse they will use (intimidation charges) when they try to throw out the Poll Watchers or other observers. Its not even race baiting; its all about the planned fraud.
This shows how silly and dangerous the mainstream media is. Kerry's makes an outrageous statement and its taken at face value. For example, Where in God's name did he get that million person figure??
