Flap over lyrics cancels reggae artist's Sacramento shows

Dancehall reggae artist Capleton's Sacramento performance at Harlow's was canceled Friday amid protests over the singer's allegedly anti-gay lyrics. His shows scheduled for San Francisco, Los Angeles, Humboldt and Chico were also canceled in the past week.

"Harlow's position on hate violence against the gay and lesbian community is the same as it (toward) any and all victims of hate violence. It will not be tolerated," Harlow's general manager Daniel Torza said in a written statement he sent to The Bee and addressed to Lambda Community Center, a local gay and lesbian organization.

Sacramento has actually canceled Capleton twice in recent days. He was originally slated to play California State University, Sacramento, on Thursday before complaints prompted campus program directors to rethink the show.

You have got to check out Firehat.com, a site by former TV writer Norman Liebmann. He puts the gay thing in pretty good perspective, and he's damn funny about it. Try the archives, near the top, "heroes and queeroes", and way down the list, "Gay Scoutmasters: Foxing around in the Henhouse", I believe it was called.

Norman also comments quite often about Vermont, which is also hilarious.

AGGGH, we have had enough censorship in this country. Every tear the nightly news reports the Library Assoc. list of books that some have tried to ban, and now this, some of those fasict right wing folks want to stop a singer from having his greedom of expression. Oh, wait, the LEGITIMATE thought police are trying to silence him. Well that is different, carry on.

Homosexual Agenda Ping - I hope this "artiste" gets the popularity he deserves. What garbage. Leftists, fools, traitors, and perverts can say or do any damn thing they want up to and including lying and threatening the life of President Bush, outright perverted sex acts in public, and worse.

But make fun of or criticize homosexuals in song and rhyme?

The horror.

Let me and Scripter know if anyone wants on/off this pinglist.

Here's the lyrics in question.... Harlow's then booked Capleton for Saturday and local gay and lesbian activists responded by preparing to protest outside the midtown nightclub. They were outraged by lyrics such as "bun out di chi chi," which translates to "burn the gay man."

Homosexuals suffer from self-inflicted harm on a far greater scale than any song lyric was ever responsable for.

From the book: After the Ball: How America Will conquer its Fear and hatred of Gays in the 1990s...

Conversion: By conversion is meant a planned psychological attack in the form of propaganda fed to the nation via the media, "making Americans hold us in warm regard, whether they like it or not." (Kirk and Madsen, p. 154).
