No comment on Dr. Mack's career, but I'd be willing to bet that as an American visiting city where they drive "on the wrong side," he looked the wrong way before he stepped off the curb. Winston Churchill was seriously injured by a taxicab in New York City in the 1930s when he looked the wrong way.
I recall that many of the pedestrian crosswalks in London have "LOOK RIGHT" stenciled onto the sidewalk, in an effort to prevent such mishaps. It's a quite common occurrence.

Awright. In the U.K they drive on the Left while we drive on the Right. You have to look the opposite way at the intersection before you walk across the street. The article doesn't say if Mack was driving or a passenger or a pedestrian. Terrible tragedy.
