Half the audience who showed up last week to see John Edwards' first South Carolina appearance since he won his home state's primary in February walked out before he arrived - two hours late. And in another sign of trouble in paradise, the state's Democratic Senate candidate - whose campaign the Edwards visit was supposed to boost - declined to be seen on the same stage with him. Democrat U.S. Senate hopeful Inez Tenenbaum "has gone to great lengths to distance herself from the national party," reports the South Carolina newspaper, The State. Edwards "is about as close as shes going to allow herself to get to the national party," the paper reports. The State noted, however, "Tenenbaum didnt appear on the platform with him" at either the rally or a fund-raiser scheduled for later that day. Aides said she would have skipped the event altogether if John Kerry had been the guest of honor.
It didn't help that Edwards kept the crowd at Columbia's Martin Luther King Jr. Park waiting so long. As they sat for two hours in the sweltering heat inside the community center, Democratic officials were observed checking their watches and looking irritated. When State Party chairman Joe Erwin opened the door to let some air in, people began to get up and leave.
"The hall was about half-full by the time Edwards arrived," the State reported.
This is absolutely sweet!
Ooh, suddenly I feel relaxed for the first time this evening. Thank you for the wonderful news.
Another toe shot off!
Kerry and Edwards lost the South the night of the DNC freakshow in Boston.
He showed up two hours late and expected everybody to wait for him - what a Rock Star mentality! Oh, wait a minute - that's a different thread ...
Let me guess....when Edwards did arrive....he shouted "Let Them Eat Cake". What a self-absorbed arse!
I am sure that when he was working to make millions on his malpractice cases against OB-GYN practices and putting doctors out of business...well I bet he made it to the court room on time!!
fyi
President Bush was 20 minutes early in Erie Pa.
nice way to thank your supporters.
Just like when kerry rode thru the small town on a train.
Some of those people had been there for 12 hours.
Kerrys train just drove on thru, kerry blamed the conductor.
Edwards is done in politics.
Let him go back to ambulance-chasing.
And let me guess... he still billed for the hours he was "in transit."
This says more about their campaign than a hundred polls that you can post here.
This blow-dried dung beetle wouldn't have won the Democratic Senate renomination in his "home" state of North Carolina, which last saw his cow-lick backside sometime shortly after Nov 2000.
South Carolina was carried by Kennedy in 1960 by less than 10,000 votes (voter fraud at work, anyone?), and by Carter in 1976. Every other election since 1960 the Republicans have won the state's electoral votes (Humphrey came in 3rd in 1968). Bush's margin in 2000 was 220,000 votes.
Edwards is from North Carolina.
Sorry the pic (plane) came out twice...
