Syrian FM blasts Israel at UN

Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa on Monday lambasted during a speech at a meeting of United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Sharaa accused Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of deluding the world by trying to present his disengagement plan as a solution to the problems in the Middle East. Israel, he said, "has transformed its regular army into gangs bent on systematic killings and war crimes against Palestinian civilians..."

"Israel bares an important share of the responsibility for intensifying and worsening the American predicament in Iraq by avoiding to resume the peace process despite the hand extended in peace by the Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese," he continued.

"This Israeli reaction will come back to haunt the future, because its continued occupation of Arab lands is a major cause for rejection of American policies in the Middle East," Syria's Foreign Minister said.

"This is the conception in Europe, where polls conducted a year ago showed that most of the citizens in the European Union believes that Israel poses a threat to international peace," he said.

Israel, through its powerful lobby, is focusing on "inciting Americans, first, and then the West, to wage endless wars in the Middle East to underscore ... (Israel's theory) that the Arab-Israeli conflict is not the core of the problems in the region," Farouk al-Sharaa told the U.N. General Assembly's ministerial meeting.

Al-Sharaa said Israel's influence over what he described as think-tanks aligned to it is aimed at "diverting the attention of the world, and camouflage the settlement activities in the Occupied Arab Territories that have continued unabated, while continuing to build the racist segregation wall, and diminishing the importance of state terror perpetrated by Israel on a daily basis."

"Among the strategic mistakes committed by think tanks that owe allegiance to Israel is misleading Israelis into believing that the new Iraq will established diplomatic agreements with it before it withdraws from the occupied territories," al Sharaa continued.

"They ignored the fact that the Iraqis refuse to adopt a new flag that was designed for their country after the war simply because its colors bear resemblance to the Israeli flag," al Sharaa said.

Tackling the U.N. resolution that called for Syria's withdrawal from Lebanon, a country in which it is the main power-broker, al-Sharaa said it is "rather offensive" for Israel's foreign minister to "selectively" refer to that resolution when Israel "violates on a daily basis" Lebanon's airspace, territorial waters and land, and occupies a part of that country _ a reference to the disputed Cheeba Farms area.

"The world community today bears witness to Israel's persistent noncompliance with 40 resolutions adopted by the (U.N.) Security Council and 600 others adopted by the General Assembly," he claimed.

Commenting on Sunday's killing of a Hamas terrorist in Damascus, Deputy Defense Minister Zeev Boim said Monday the issue was not who killed Sheikh Khalil, but rather Syria's deep involvement in terrorism.

"Syria is responsible for directing terrorism against us and therefore it is not immune from our operations to prevent terrorism," Boim told Israel Radio.

"This is a central thing that needs to be said ... anyone who hurts Israel, anyone who takes part in terrorism that leads to murder and death ... of Israelis, he'll pay for it, and it doesn't matter if he operates in Israel or abroad," he added.

Boim described Syria as a "central intersection" of terrorism and Syrian President Bashar Assad as the "traffic officer" directing the operations and harboring the groups.

Hamas' threats, Boim said, should not be taken lightly, "but we have to very aware and not take our eyes off the special place Syria holds in the chain of terrorism, regionally and globally."

Ha!!

"Syria blasts Israel at UN". That's like saying a dog crapped and it stunk.

UN and Syria - partners in baby killing. Or rather, Syria arms the terrorists, the UN pays them and lauds them afterwards.

I've been wondering when the Syrian incarnation of Bagdad Bob would crawl into view. We can depend on Syria Al-Sharaa to continue to be entertaining.
