Hispanics protest driver's license veto

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Angered by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's veto of a bill to let illegal immigrants drive legally, Hispanic leaders and political groups are organizing protests and a national boycott of California to disrupt convention business.

Supporters of the bill accuse the Republican governor of reneging on promises to reach a compromise. Instead, they say, Mr. Schwarzenegger tacked on a demand that calls for licenses to be specifically marked — differentiating illegal immigrants' licenses from those of U.S. citizens and legal residents.

They're here illegally, but they're outraged that the governor would want to include that info on a state-issued drivers' license? These people aren't only law-breakers; they're unreasonable whiners.

On my Washington state cable TV system, we now have FOUR Spanish-language stations on our regular cable package.

Not too long ago, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that Alabama should not be forced to offer its driving tests in Spanish. (That's right, the 4 nuts on the court actually believe the state of Alabama should have to translate their driving tests into a second language!)

I'd like my country back, please!

I wish Tom Tancredo had opposed President Bush in the primary just to force Bush to get a clue on his pandering and pathetic illegal immigration policies.

While Tancredo and author Michelle Malkin point to very dangerous lapses in our national security, President Bush is busy taping another campaign ad in Spanish.

How 'bout doing some Italian ads, Prez, for people who have moved here legally from one of our most reliable allies? How 'bout learning some Japanese for the Asian immigrants who stood in line and waited their turn to get here? Seems the only immigrants Bush wants to pander to are the ones who are here illegally in alarming numbers! And now we have the legals sticking up for the illegals. Apparently, they all feel entitled to government benefits, schooling, drivers' licenses, etc. Wonder where they got that idea...

A while back I called a number to get info for the San Diego County Fair. It's not unusual to hear these recordings offer the info in English and Spanish, but that wasn't the case. It first said "To hear this message in English, please wait." Then I had to hear the message in Spanish first before the English version.

I didn't go to the fair as they're not getting my money.

I also try to avoid doing business with companies that only encourage Spanish-speaking individuals to put off learning English. If people keep translating every little message for them, there's little incentive for them to learn how to speak English. We all ought to be able to find a common language we can use to communicate with one another. Here in America, English is the only obvious choice.

General Naturalization Requirements to become a US citzen.

Language

Applicants for naturalization must be able to read, write, speak, and understand words in ordinary usage in the English language. Applicants exempt from this requirement are those who on the date of filing:

*have been residing in the United States subsequent to a lawful admission for permanent residence for at least 15 years and are over 55 years of age;
*have been residing in the United States subsequent to a lawful admission for permanent residence for at least 20 years and are over 50 years of age; or
*have a medically determinable physical or mental impairment, where the impairment affects the applicant’s ability to learn English.

They're probably all hoping for an exemption.

I wish all those illegal immigrants would boycott our country and stay in Mexico. Furthermore, immigration should just open a booth outside the licensing station and check them as they come for licenses. The ones who are there illegally should be sent back to Mexico.

bill to let illegal immigrants drive legally

Isn't that kind of like giving criminals with guns a permit?

In other news.....muggers, armed robbers, burglars, rapists, and murderers were angered
by new laws that they say make it more difficult for them to 'make a living'

They called this new policy 'discrimination' and 'racist'

I am Hispanic and I am outraged about the whining of the Hispanic politicians. I agree with Governor Schwarzenegger. I am sorry, but if they are here illegally they are not entitled to the benefits of the legal US residents and the American citizen. I blame Univision and Telemundo for fomenting such misguided anger. It is well known that Islamic terrorists are entering our country posing as Hispanics...we should do everything to protect our borders. I also agree that if you want to live in this country, you should learn English...otherwise you are setting yourself up for economic and financial failure.

I like to choose the Spanish option when I call companies and know I will be talking to a human being. I then carry on the conversation in English since I know they are all in the same call center and the Spanish speakers are bilingual. Gives me a warm feeling.

I think what everyone is forgetting is the Illegal part. I too am an American of Mexican descent, and the son of legal immigrants. I say play by the rules or go home! I don't blame TV as much as I blame our inept and sensitive poloticians.
