U.S. MILITARY STILL BELIEVES WMD IN SYRIA
MENewsline ^ | Sept. 26, 2004 | MENL

WASHINGTON [MENL] -- The U.S. military continues to assess that the former Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq transferred much of its weapons of mass destruction arsenal to neighboring Syria.

U.S. officials said that U.S. Army Intelligence does not share the conclusion that Saddam had abandoned his WMD program before the U.S.-led war against Iraq in 2003. They said military intelligence has attributed the U.S. failure to find Iraqi WMD platforms or munitions to Saddam's transfer of these systems to Syria in late 2002 and early 2003.

Over the last year, U.S. Central Command has helped the Iraqi Survey Group in the search for WMD in Iraq. The group has wound down its activities in Iraq without any success.

"The Iraqi Survey Group has yet to submit its final report," Lt. Gen. Lance Smith, deputy chief of U.S. Central Command, said. "Besides, who knows what we will find in two years, who knows what was moved to countries like Syria. What we know for certain is that Saddam Hussain had carried out research into an array of weapons of mass destruction."

There is just too much evidence pointing to this scenario.

If we would invade Syria, before giving them a chance to send those WMD to Iran, we would find Iraq's "missing" WMD.

Keep an eye on the Bekaah valley (sp?).

I suspect that in the near future Lucy Assad will have some `splainin' to do.

I do so wish the administration would discuss this possible scenario more often.

I remember very well when Rumsfeld went to the UN and showed them satellite photos of convoys leaving Iraq going into Syria.

I have a gut feeling that is where the WMDs are. I just wish we could prove it.

Maybe we could forge documents and use it in a news cast. Sure, the docs would be false, but the thrust of it would be true. ;)

I'm hearing ugly reports out of the Sudan - people coming out of the bush with injuries that look like chemical weapons...

Right, the only reason there is any doubt now that there were more WMD in Iraq THAN WE HAVE FOUND SO FAR is that a particular group benefits politically from pretending it was all bad intellegence.

Why would a ruthless, savage dictator like Saddam Hussein simply abandon these weapons he used previously -- and without any real attempt by any power to remove same from his arsenal?

Kindness?

I think Assad is being given a choice: choose as Khaddaffi did, or end up like Saddam.

I think you nailed it. The President is letting Syria know they need to play nice, or end up a parking lot.

I think we CAN prove them. We have satellite photos of truck convoys going from Iraq to Syria, before we went into Iraq -- I read it in an article.

I think, for some reason, Bush rather took the criticism over the WMD, than to show the evidence. Perhaps, because the Dems would claim that he is just making it up, to use as reason to invade Syria, and that we wouldn't find them there either. But we know they are there, Israel knows and Syria knows.

The moment of truth is coming.

I vote push the Syrians to do a Kadaffi and send all the weapons to Iran. That leaves only one hand caught in the cookie jar to spank. Then have them assume the position or else!

Was it Rumsfeld or Powell who showed the photos? Whoever it was, I remember seeing them and wondered why all of the news networks blatantly ignored it. Even now, as the military points to this growing pile of evidence, the MSM is burying its collective head in the sand and pretending that nothing is happening.

U.S. DETECTS SYRIAN CW IN SUDAN
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1221613/posts

"U.S. officials said the CIA has obtained what it deemed reliable information that Syria used a range of air bombs and perhaps rockets filled chemical and biological weapons in the war in Darfour. They said the BW and CW were used in Sudanese military attacks against African villagers in Darfour.

"The U.S. intelligence community has clear evidence that Syrian weapons and experts arrived several months ago and tested the operational use of a range of biological and chemical weapons in Darfour," an official said. "The results were devastating."

===

And these same weapons could be used against us right here in the US.

Gen. Tommy Franks said that we have a choice of fighting the terrorists "over there" or "over here" and he prefers "over there". So do all sane people.
