Public confidence in press reliability reaches 30-year low
Washington Times ^ | 9/24/04 | Jennifer Harper

The public is plenty vexed by the press. A Gallup poll released yesterday finds that the public's trust in the press has reached its lowest point in three decades. Only 9 percent of those surveyed said they had a "great deal" of confidence that news was reported fully, accurately and fairly in print and broadcast outlets. An additional 39 percent said they had little confidence, and 16 percent said they had "none at all." Some were more tolerant: 35 percent said they had "a fair amount" of trust.

The stations are receiving angry phone calls and e-mails; there has been a noticeable drop in advertising revenues; and there was a picket line outside an Ohio television station. Radio stations have been affected as well. WNIS-AM in Norfolk announced yesterday that it no longer will air CBS News reports, joining Houston-based KPRC, which pulled the CBS afternoon news summary earlier this week. "The outrage from our listeners has been deafening," said WNIS Operations Manager Dave Morgan yesterday.

I'm worried about the 40% or so who still have a basic belief that the news people are being somewhat honest with them. I worry about the whack jobs who can't see that the Swifties are telling the truth about Kerry and speaking honestly out of the right motivation. I worry that people are not going to get wise enough before November 2nd.

I worry!

Trust the networks? That's a laugh. To this day, dnCBS is sticking by it's story. Sure, the documents are a cheap fraud, but what about the charges? They have yet to retract their garbage and it's misused everyday, I just heard it on CNN a few moments ago. Something like "the Bush document controversy". They are not "Bush documents". These are leftwing fantasies. couple this with Jason Blair fiction at the NYTwit Times, NBC's famous truck bombs, the AP's big boohoohoo and why would you trust any of those clowns? Oh, let's don't forget CNN making a deal with SADDAM for crying out loud. They admit to being his propaganda arm for access. Everyone of these instances involves not just deception, but leftwing bias, dishonesty to say the least, antiAmerican and anticaptialist tripe.

Rathergate has awakened the rabble to what most of us here have known for years - - the "mainstream" liberal newsrooms are hotbeds of political activism, selfishness, and vanity.

Thank you, Dan Rather and CBS News.
"Courage." You scumbags.

What do they hear?.."discredited, they weren't there"..One has to read or watch their rare appearance on cable to know they WERE on the river with Kerry, slept in the same area and served together...They are not treated with respect where Kerry is treated like a hero because he served in Vietnam 4 months...and O'Neill, (a dem!) is called a political operative.

I have great disdain for Kerry's padding his part in Vietnam..I despise him for the harm he did to our vets, the POWs and our country when he came home.

He is doing it again..right now..He is harming our mission, trying to demoralize our troops and our country.
His minions are carrying his message in their ads and on TV with their spokespersons...

Right on. They have created the whole thing with their insidious language..... and it works on a great many uninformed Americans.

This election is going to be rough. The Old Media is still too subliminally influential, no matter how much people like to believe that the country is turning away from the Old Media.

Old Media continue to effect opinions greatly of a large segment of unaware (ignorant) voters. They don't even know they are being propagandized and it is very sad.

What percentage of people work for some arm of the press?

What percentage of the people are inside the bubble?

It is indeed puzzling. Over the years, a handful of times I've been in a position to have first-hand knowledge of something being reported in the news -- and I'm talking about things like neighborhood crime, etc., not politically charged things. And I always found that the more I knew about what happened, the more pathetically incomplete, inaccurate and/or misleading the press coverage was. The real mystery is how "journalism" ever came to be considered respectable. (Read Chesterton: he was quite happy with being considered disreputable because he was a "journalist" -- but he was "honest" disreputable.)

Agreed.

Army Security Agency -- '69-'71

Things were alot tougher when coming home for vets because of Kerry, and things were alot worse for millions of others in the far east.

He darkened the name of the American military in the eyes of generations of people in all countries all over the world. And our mainstream media ran with that lying story!!!

Kerry marked us terribly, and the damage to this country CONTINUES today and tomorrow!

Kerry, the selfish opportinist deserves a special place in hell, IMO.

You are so right. Yesterday when he bashed Alawi I was furious. I hope when the powers that be find him and the DNC in direct collaboration with CBS that the first thing they do is to completely disallow ANY press coverage of him, i.e. no pictures, no microphones, no sound bites, nothing. Him not being the center of attention will be one of the worst punishments he could receive
