HONG KONG - Here's one breaking story that Dan Rather will be watching closely.
Reacting to the document scandal at CBS News, Sumner M. Redstone, chairman and chief executive of Viacom (nyse: VIAb - news - people ), CBS' parent, vowed that the results of a recently announced probe would be "appropriate--and the consequences will be appropriate."
Speaking before the Forbes Global CEO Conference here, Redstone told delegates he has been "very concerned" about a Sept. 8, 2004, 60 Minutes story reported by Rather that suggested lapses in President George W. Bush's military record. CBS has since conceded that the documents on which the story was based could not be authenticated. Rather has apologized, and CBS News has said the story was a mistake.
Earlier this week CBS News named former Pennsylvania Governor and U.S. Attorney General Richard Thornburgh and retired Associated Press President and CEO Louis D. Boccardi to an independent panel to probe the story. Redstone said he has been talking daily to top CBS officials and to Viacom board members about the controversy. "What took place I did not like at all," Redstone said.

Commenting on the upcoming U.S. presidential election, Redstone said that while Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) was a "nice guy," the re-election of President Bush would be best for Viacom's interests, since the Administration backed deregulation and other issues that would help the company.

Demand a criminal investigation into this incident. The forgery of Texas Air National Guard documents is a felony, and there are grounds to investigate a conspiracy related to the forgery of those documents.

I guess unloading 12 million dollars worth of the company's stock is at least one "appropriate" response in Redstone's world. Gotta keep those assets liquid and easily transportable, you know.
C-BS had the perfect opportunity to boost their ratings out of the water, but once again fell on their faces. If they'd fired Blather on the spot stating they are for truth and justice, viewers would have actually gotten up off the couch to switch the channel to CBS.
I really believe he will face a suspension at the very least which could very well cause him to resign. (fingers crossed)

Redstone needs to be asked if it is "appropriate" for his networks to be promoting a draft lie!
He and the CBS/MTV should be called on it.
