I hope this is intentional misinformation, because telegraphing the results of war games and our future plans to the enemy is grossly irresponsible. It would be irresponsible, wouldn't it?
Those guys at the CIA/DIA sure are dumb. </sarcasm>

Sources quoted by Newsweek said circulated memos echo the administration's unsuccessful Iraq strategy ...This sentence gives me some clues about the agenda of the person who wrote this article.

Yeah, and that is what they said after studying the possibility of Israel striking the Iraqi reactor back in the 80s.
If the US doesn't do it, Israel will. But I still think the US will do it and remove Iran's nuclear reactors.

How much more can the conflict between the free-world and militant Islam escalate? That is the question. It's already escalated enough, I would think.

Newsweek quoted an Air Force source as saying, "The war-games were unsuccessful at preventing the conflict from escalating." Gee, what a surprise. In the end, did the Iranians use a nuke? The cost for preventing the Iranians using a nuke on Israel/US/Russia/Europe will be high, but what about the cost of doing not stopping them?

It's not obvious that this is the question.

I disagree. Apart from the obvious conclusion that it's
not smart to wait until an openly islamicist nation has
the bomb, the time to figure out a strategy for dealing
with this distributed-tribalist menace, and executing
that strategy, is now or in the near future.
Right now, most of the world that could be helping is not.
If they wait until they have a massive strike, it's apt
to be too late.
Nations like France may be thinking that by "accomodating"
the cutthroat cult, France will be the last to get its
throat cut. It would be more useful to get them enrolled
in confronting the problem now. If they don't become part
of the solution soon, their military assets will become
part of the problem later.

I think you forgot the Russians are the ones helping build Iran's nukes. If the Iranian government gets the nukes and uses them, the Russians should be equally liable.
To: freedom44
is this bad or are just messing with them?

I doubt the mullahs have anything to fear from the Russians -- who do you think has sold them the technology and equipment?
Israel, however, is another story.

Iran will never use the nukes, since that would kill more than Jews. Therefore, if you consider the source of the nukes (Russia), you may reach the conclusion that Russia is using Iran to dampen the build-up of US influence in the region.

Lets see... Turkey to the north. U.S. troops to the west and east ( with really big land and air bases ).
The Persian Gulf to the south.
Iran's new missile can not only reach Israel but also a bunch of the really famous old cities full of weenies in Europe.
Bush promised a long term war on terror. The democrats appear to be losing ground as domestic terrorists.
I would say we are on schedule as much as a world war can be.

Mullahs don't consider Iran's youth their children, they only consider the hard-line 15% loyal to the regime their children.

It'll be a stand off. Works for the Russkies.
Pretty sure it can't be stopped.
