Hot Issues Go Directly to State Voters Gay Marriage Among Initiative Questions By David S. Broder Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, September 18, 2004; Page A01

Eleven states have responded to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court decision allowing same-sex marriage by proposing to alter their constitutions or statutes to require that the partners be one man and one woman. Missouri voters approved such a measure on the August primary ballot by a 71 percent majority. Sponsors are hoping for similar results in Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah and Oregon -- with a petition drive pending in Ohio and a vote today in Louisiana.

One would hope that the coming and overwhelming rejection of legally recognizing gay unions would send a message to the federal judiciary, especially the Sup Court, but I don't think it will. Actually I take that back. It will send a message, and that will make it that much sweeter for Stevens, Breyer, Souter, Ginsburg, and O'Connor to indulge their king complex and impose gay marriage/civil unions on a very resistant public.

But anyway, I didn't see the Michigan initiative to ban racial preferences mentioned here. Does anyone know the status of that? Last I heard it had overwhelming support despite having virtually every institutional power (including the state GOP) aligned against it, but that it had judicial hurdles to overcome. No surprise there.

Well, for what it's worth, in California, the voters overwhelmingly VOTED SAME SEX MARRIAGE DOWN!!! ...and of course, alot of good that did, which leftist-extremist officials BREAKING THE LAW in the face of the voting citizenry, to allow gay marriages...(mayor of SF)...and just getting his hand slapped by the state supreme court.

What a crock! Liberals get a free pass when it comes to BREAKING THE LAW --- and it is obvious that the liberals that get into public office DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE AT ALL ---

So leaving these critical issues to state officials is a joke, at least in California it is.

The high court is not set up institutionally to receive democratic messages, but to shape correct opinion. Our duty is to defer to its messages. That point is Civics 101 in law screwl, and one has better understand it when taking the bar in most states.

Activist "liberal" judges feel themselves superior to the general public. Referendum results mean nothing to them. In fact, it feeds their egos to know that they're crushing majority opinion. They get aroused by imposing their views on society against the people's will. They love playing dictator. Just look at the arrogant smugness of Margaret Marshall's face whenever you see a photo of her. She feels totally at ease altering a multi-thousand year old societal institution for no better reason than that she has decided it needs to be changed. And she feels completely superior to the "common folk" so she basks in her arrogance every time she writes a ruling.

Both Michigan and North Dakota voters crushed ballot proposals to legalize abortion just shortly before Roe vs. Wade was handed down. Massive rejection of "gay marriage" by the voters will make the Margaret Marshalls and David Souters all the more determined to bring the judicial jackboot down on the "uppity peasants" who dare to think the people should rule.

What has happened so far with marriage amendments in the various states shows us that voters are more concerned about social issues than money issues.

IN OKLAHOMA:

State Question 711..............Legislative Referendum No. 334

This measure adds a new section of law to the Constitution. It adds Section 35 to Article 2. It defines marriage to be between one man and one woman. It prohibits giving the benefits of marriage to persons who are not married. It provides that same sex marriages in other states are not valid in this state. It makes issuing a marriage license in violation of this section a misdemeanor.

SHALL THE PROPOSAL BE APPROVED?

FOR THE PROPOSAL--- YES

AGAINST THE PROPOSAL--- NO

vote YES on OK State Prop 711 !
